Just heard on CNN that a Swiss man was given ten years in jail for defacing some pictures of the King. I wonder if he will have to serve the time, or will he be eventually pardoned and/or deported? This will be interesting to follow. _________________ Maverick |

Good morning Matthew,
This actually continues a thread that's been going for a while.
Wow....10 years. I know how much respect the King ( quite rightfully ) is given and I've heard previous stories about people being imprisoned for short lengths of time for disrespecting the King in any way.
I don't understand the sheer stupidity of this man as he apparantly has/had lived in Thailand for 10 years so he knows damn well how highly respected the King is....... There is no excuse for his lack of the use of brain cells at this time.
I know people will disagree with me but, a man living in Thailand for that long should no better. There is something wrong with him......lock himup!! |

Does the punishment fit the 'crime'?
An inexcusably cruel sentence! |

Term & condition #8. Discussions of Thai monarchy are strictly forbidden. Sorry, guys, I'm locking this now until admin can see it & make a final decision. There is another thread on this topic in the News section should you wish to comment, but please, no comments about whether you feel the sentence is warranted. The man was tried under Thai law, where lese majeste is an extremely serious offence. Thanks. _________________ "The question is not, can they reason? Nor, can they talk? Quite correct dawn
Actually quite a lenient sentence considering there is a 15 year sentence for each offense....
It is not for us to question the Law of this country, we are aware of the laws of the kingdom in regards to such things and should abide .... |
