Hi. Been a member for some time now, but this is my first post.
I am a single, male secondary school teacher in Scotland, but quite frankly the job is slowly killing me, and I am planning on either cracking up entirely or taking early retirement by this time next year. If the latter, I intend trying to relocate full time to Hua Hin.
I have possibly met one or two of you over the years, since I spend 5/6 weeks every UK summer in Thailand, and always make a point of visiting Hua Hin for a week or two. Can’t say I’ve made any bosom buddies, but I have enjoyed many interesting conversations with people who stay there, and practically to a man they confirm my own impression that this sleepy little Scandinavian fishing village is one of the best places to stay in the whole of Thailand.
(FWIW, if anyone remembers a guy who drank mainly in the Celtic and Ship bars at various times during July/Aug this year, often with his head buried in the latest Harry Potter, and who may have shown you a couple of bits of light verse what he wrote on a Thai theme - yes, that was me.)
I was sorry to read about the demise of the Ship/Dubliner; I have always enjoyed some interesting times there. It’s good that Eddie is taking some of his female staff to El Murphy’s, as I have always found them to be a warm, wise and friendly bunch, and I hope to spend some time re-acquainting myself with them not only next summer as usual but also during a short trip in early April, which I can’t really afford, but you only live once, so mai pen rai….
Anyway, now that I feel I’m on the home straight, I hope to contribute more, so expect a bunch of annoying questions in the countdown months to come, and hope to meet up as friends with some of you one day.
Thank you for listening.

Ian.

Ian,

Its a bit late to welcome you to the forum, you've been around for quite a while already. However, please keep on posting. I too intend retiring to Hua Hin in the not too distant future, and you may well ask a question about something I've completely overlooked.

Every little helps.

Will you be teaching in Thailand?

Thanks to all for responses so far.
dtai mai: I may teach a little for pocket money if that is possible. Maybe try to earn a bit from my writing hobby. Maybe just turn into an old codger with a bottle of Chang on the steps of a 7-11. Probably I will try taking a TEFL-type course when I first arrive. Any advice gratefully appreciated.
Mark: Yes indeed, once met, never forgotten! Have sent you a PM.

Make sure that you've got a Work Permit.

Looks like it might be the Chang outside the 7-11 then.
