Wi-Fi in Hua Hin these days?

I'll keep the question short and sweet: What's the state of Wi-Fi access in HH these days?

All I know is that Sunshine Internet offers some sort of access, but I don't know how wide or reliable the coverage is, or how billing works.

I use the sunshine wifi signal and find it quite fast (ish) it is certainly faster than the hutch system I was using. Of course it depends if you can pick up the signal or not? The best thing I can suggest is to go to the sunshine internet shop and buy a cheap card, say 100bht. This will give you a username and password which you then enter onto their site. If you get a signal go for the 500bht a month unlimited use card, its what I use. Good luck....

Randy, what type of modem are you using; can you use a normal wi-fi like you get built into a laptop, or do you have to buy something else?

If you go into the Sunshine shop they will give a free access code so you can test the sytem at your location.

I used the modem in my laptop and it works fine.

I have a wifi card built into my laptop, and it automaticaly detects all strong signals from any given location.

Thanks for the tips. I tried out the Sunshine signal and it was pretty fast in the morning, not so fast later on. I don't live downtown so it is no good for residential use, though.

There are a few around town, but the most central one is on the soi that starts across from the Subhamitra hotel, near the main road. It's also next to the Tanawit Hotel, and across from the Euro bakery.

Another way to find it: If you are in the Hua Hin Shopping Mall, exit the front door, and turn left. Go into the first little soi on your left. It make a 90 degree turn right and you are on a nice little soi with paving stone and farang-oriented businesses on either side. Sunshine has a yellow and red sign sticking out on the left hand side. The Euro Bakery is on your right.

Hey Randy,
Do you know if the sunshine coverage extends into mid-town areas? In particular in / around the night-Markets (sorry can't recall the name of the road), also there is a Thai theatre / restaurant nearby.

I am thinking of sending my GF/BG a laptop for her Birthday (so we can email instead of TXT) but she has no fixed telephone line.... needs Wifi access.

Any info, much appreciated.

That's not far from the shop, so she should get a good signal. Make sure the laptop you are sending her is wifi ready (has a wifi card built in) I am about 3k from the shop and get a good signal, but I am quite high up, which has a bearing. If she gets the laptop that is wifi ready, and a signal is strong the computer should tell her. She can connect to it and see where it is coming from and then visit the establishment to buy a pre paid card. There are several places in town that offer wifi....

I'm thinking of bring a laptop with me on holiday soon. I am renting a house directly behind the Jed Pee Nong Hotel in Soi 63. If I do bring a laptop, how likely is it that I would be able to pick up a wi-fi signal in that location please?

BB, if you have no luck with a wi-fi signal try connecting via a mobile phone to a gprs signal. I was doing this over the last few weeks and getting a reasonable web access, as long as you have a full strength signal which you should have in the centre of town.
A net-sim card from 1-2-Call costs 200bt and you get 30 hours of internet a month for 99bt. It wasn’t perfect but it’s ridiculously cheap compared with similar access in Europe.
