its not the style or design of the houses that would put me off buying, just the thought of living in what could possibly become a suburban estate full of expats from all over the globe. no offence to anyone but i would prefer to move to the east to get away from that kind of living.
the houses up in nong ki & issan in general have a lot more character.a friend of mine is looking to buy up that way, cheap too. downside, its a long way to the beach _________________ when all are one & one is all, to be a rock & not to roll. |

As for wooden houses, Phrae(?) seems to be the place, not teak, but a "flat pack" they will build pretty much anywhere for about 800k up. No kitchen/bathroom. Seen some examples where these have been added on concrete pillars at the "end" of the wooden house. All from different sites. Sadly the Co's don't appear to have websites unless someone here knows otherwise?
Obvious advantage? Fall out with the missus if built on her land, just pack it up and build elsewhere! I read that somewhere else as well. Still, its good fun researching. Would love to buy a couple of Rai upcountry and build and have fruit trees, the lot, on the land.
But I'll probaly end up with a concrete pile somewhere!
Still, next time I'm there, I can research in earnest!!! _________________ I know nothing |

I would have been more than happy to buy older place but the key thing for me was my wife's desire for security. I travel a lot for work and wanted a place with security.
Having said that, I'm also likely to be looking for a couple of investment properties so I'll gladly look at older places for that. Dawn, pm me the details |
