I have been in in hua hin for only a short period of time ( 3 years ) yet tonight was the mother of all floods on the roads . Going down some roads I was hit with 3 foot of water.
I went to the police station to inform them that i had witnessed 3 crashes
in the last 5 minutes due to the flooding and the response I got was " Police sleep already, come tomorrow"

GOD HELP US ALL!!

it will only get worse if the developers and land owners are allowed continued freedom to remove vegetation and forestation from the slopes Hua hin hill sides, mud slides will be next as the ground becomes more and more saturated in the wet seasons..
has any one done any risk assessments into this? I doubt it !

Not sure when it happened, but there is a bizarre van crash just about opposite Palm Hills, on the corner of the road to the Boathouse.

I happened to pass it twice this morning ( on errands not on purpose) the driver must have been doing 150 on that corner. . .the van broke a cement utility pole and was wedged almost vertically between the guard rail and the post. (Anyone in the front seat must have been killed instantly)

I wondered if it was a Bangkok "wan" with passengers. Anyone know??

Dr Dave, you are absolutely spot on.

People building these big housing developments have no concern at all to the damage they are doing geologically. It's all about the money.

Who cares if there are mudslides? As long as I'm making enough money it's okay Shocked

Don't worry about mud slides; the developers have addressed this problem by covering the whole area in concrete! Also to get rid of the water table they have kindly built loads of golf courses so they can pump about a million gallons of water out everyday and evaporate it off the greens.

Left HH this morning after last nights rain and the Tesco side of Petcasem from just before Tescos to after the Koh Takiap U turn was under about 1 metre of water and sewage. A said until somebody does something about the un regulated development ths will only get worse.
"Come to HH and wade through sewage for 3 months of the year" is not a great selling point. Wil anything be done, I very much doubt it Cheers

H2ODunc, you have stayed in Thailand too long, that's why you are so pessimistic! Wink naughty

Ofcourse there will be things done by the relatives/friends of the current Tesaban and who needs planing, a few cosmetic repairs, dig more holes here and there and maybe even some more pipes will be thrown in but not for free though, all that just for some hefty amount of money from this years budget, till the next floods hit the town.

BUT what about next rainy season?
Please go to the top and read this reply again.

I would just like to say also that can we stop using 'TIT' as an excuse for the goings on in this country.

Things can be done about certain problems yet the easier way out is a polite 'mai pen rai'

If you still use 'TIT' as a problem solver then you have been here too long ( 20-30 years ) and can't be bothered to look for a decent solution.

Maybe one of the many developers we have can tell the rest of the people of HH just what they are doing to relieve this flooding.Or are they just getting on with business as usual and leaving it to the Thais to sort out. I would have thought that before you developed a site you would conduct an impact survey or risk assesment. Im curious as to just what any of these developers have done????????? Surely there must be one who can reply????????????? As for the TIT bit as long as you just accept the situation nothings going to get better. Cussing

Of course not because, if there was a pre-assesed risk towards building where they are building, that means no building which means no money.

Unfortunately H20Dunc we live in a world of high land prices and 1,000,000 developers trying to sell you that land. The risk factor does not account for crap all!

Got to agree GLC cash is king. I suppose it was too naieve of me to expect a reply from a developer saying what he was going to do. It was noticable that on my way back to Chumphon the rest of the journey though obviously suffered heavy rain showed no signs of the flooding in HH. Cheers
