Bit of a nostalgic post this one as I've been coming to Hua Hin on and off for many years and are not sure if I like what its turning into.

Way back when the town was quieter and there were a handful of falang run bars and businesses everone got on. These days we have fighting in the streets, backstabbing, grassing up, issuing law suits, slandering, shootings, undercutting, accidents, bullshitting, ripping off and general bad behavior.

And its all falangs - there was a topic earlier about what the town doesnt need ... and there is the answer.

(And this one is for discussion before I get a load of smartass replys telling me to "leave then".)

A taxi driver in Rome told me it was going downhill fast, too.
He said I should have come 2000 years ago, "it was really something then."

Som num na indeed, I feel really sorry for the poor folks already living permanently in Hua Hin.

Lucky me still gets to spend over half my time in good old England where theres lots more Bullshit, Rip offs and general bad behaviour.

Cheers

Maybe that is life, but only for those who choose to join in. I am sure there are many happy ex-pats enjoying life in LOS who successfully avoid this sort of thing. Having just spent a night in dear old Bintebahn I have witnessed the bullshit and back stabbing, along with the dreamers who live in cloud cuckoo land, but each to their own. If that's what people want then so be it, but not for me thanks.

What happened to Brighton. I spend couple of summers there in the mid -70 and it is not the same any more. The natives aren´t as friendly as they used to be and they are actually demanding that life should be better for them as it was back in the 70´s. I don´t know where this world is going to.

Well I am sure there are a lot of good excuses, supposed gay capital of the UK, full of cashed up yuppies to name a few.

Why could it not return to its former Glory as a battle ground for the Mods & Rockers & then the Skinheads, I am sure the locals would love that.
Would bring a bit of much needed atmosphere back to the place.

Was about the closest place to London for a Bank Holiday weekend away, always good for a laugh, all made very famous in the film "Quadrophenia"
http://www.quadrophenia.net/thefilm/index.html

I am sure that if your wanted to do a Thai version Dr Dave would have enough Scooter transport to be able to turn Soi Bintebahn into Brighton for a couple of evenings, and I am sure that there are probably some original cast members around HH if you look hard enough.

Now for the burning question who would play "The Ace Face" played by Sting in the movie. Let have a few suggestions.
Cheers Brighton Cheers Yarmouth Cheers Margate Cheers Southend Cheers Wigan Casino Cheers Nottingham

Thanks to the couple of you who actually bothered to make constructive replies. I figured a bunch of wiseass remarks such as "serves you right" would popup - its no wonder there are so few posters and so many lurkers on this forum.

I never said I was based permanently in Hua Hin, these are just observations I have made from talking to people that are and that are running businesses here.

Seems its turning into Pattaya to me, at least from the standpoint of falang business ethics.

I guess it happens to every town that sees a boom effect, it attracts the scumbags.

Dont be so sensitive!!!!!!!!! No-one's taken the piss, the point being made is that what is happening in HuaHin is the unavoidable cost of progress. Everything changes, whether its for better or for worse is up to the individual. If you want a quiet fishing village, then it's gone (though it's darned quiet now). If you want the opportunity to be part of a booming town, maybe HH is a good place to be?

Whether HH will turn into pattaya has been covered many times on this forum. No-one knows, but everyone has a good view. And I guess people here would welcome you saying what you have learned about falang business ethics in Pattaya too.

What would be nice is if the immigration could screen people before letting them in so the scumbag mafia types and the wannabes would stay in Spain.

From a falang business angle the only thing that separates this town from Pattaya is the nightlife. The attitude and mentality is sadly the same.

with the mass increase in housing developments, bars, restaurants & tourists, things are bound to change.
the growing economy & social environment always attracts an amount of undesirable characters looking for a quick buck.
the attitude & mentality of western cultures will not change just because they are over the other side of the world, its inborn unfortunately Sad .
the bigger & more prosperous the town gets, the more social problems will increase.
still, compared to my part of the uk, its still a little paradise in my eyes Very Happy

Procyon,
Whats your gripe?
If you dont like falang business owners in HH, don't deal with them!
Simple.

Its getting busier for sure, but its still not nearly as bad as some make out - if you just get on with whatever business your in and stay legal its fine. Sure some unsavoury characters live here, but they are in the minority. Most of the expats get along. Wherever there is competition you will get squabbles - you just got to get over it!
