Guys – next time if any Thai girl says to you that you’re too clever! Just say to them
“Thanks and you got to be the clever one same as me as you will be cool when you really are”
in Thai: Khob Khun Mak Krub lae khun ja tong pen khon chalard muan phom laew khun ja jeng mue khun chalard!!!

Khun mai dee sahp mark mark lair-o !
i.e this bloke is a pest he know's too much ?
This perception is easily dispelled by pronouncing Hua Hin as "Hwar Heen"
without a rising tone on the Hwar. That should quickly put you back in the 'dumbo good for a hustle' category ? |

I was married for 5 years to a Thai lady. We met when she was studying for her Masters in the USA. She came from a family where among their tough decisions each day was which of thier Mercedes should be used to drive around Bangkok any given day.
She refused to teach me Thai and would become furious at me learning Thai from anyone else. After 5 years of matrimony, we moved to Bangkok. She took comfort in that I couldn't understand her phone calls or dinner conversations with her high school and undergrad university chums.
Also, I have heard that some Thai ladies would learn some Lao language so that their boyfriends that understood some Thai wouldn't be privy to join in on thier friendly conversations.
Motive? |

| There is a common phrase used amongst ALL Thais that translates as 'A foreigner who speaks Thai is too clever' but you may not find it used in your prescence if the speaker judges that you are likely to be offended by it. A girl saying it to you is more likely to be using it as an expression of familiarity rather than one of bad intention. |
