This is starting today and running until the 18th I think. Just cycled past a whole bunch of classic motors heading south on Petchkasem, they'll be based at the Sofitel so get down there if you're into old wagons! _________________ Named must your fear be before banish it you can.

Walked by earlier and three were already there. An old Fiat - not sure about the other two, but they were in great condition.
There's tables and chairs set out and a stage, same as for the jazz festival. _________________ "I spent a lot of my money on booze, birds and fast cars - the rest I just squandered". George Best. |

I went to sofitel saturday and saw only 10 cars, in the evening I went to the beach road which had a Thai band playing but hardly any people? When I asked several people what was going on, no one seemed to know. There looks to be as much planning here as the bike week!!!! _________________ Why drink and drive when you can smoke and fly!

That's the way I saw it as well yesterday morning, RC.
Bearing in mind that the main access to the beach was effectively blocked off, you'd have thought that a bit more promotion would have gone on before. _________________ "I spent a lot of my money on booze, birds and fast cars - the rest I just squandered". George Best. |

Sofitel have been approached By HHAD with offers to promote their regular events which are to say the least very poorly promoted
The answer was no we have our own methods of promotion set by Accor
HHAD could help make many of their events a success rather than the regular flops by putting such invents in front of 40,000 plus HHAD visitors per month who will be or are already in Hua Hin when these events occur.
As stated by regular posters “no one seemed to know. There looks to be as much planning here as the bike week!!!!”
This seems to be par for the course with all these events such a shame when the potential clientele never know about these things until after the event.
They would rather use printed media that never gets seen and E mail spamming which is very annoying _________________ "I don't often agree with the RSPCA as i believe it is an animals duty to be on my plate at supper time" |

I saw the parade of cars by accident, there must have been 30 or 40 cars.
Some beautiful old Mercs, one was same model as Hitler used to plough around in! Lovely mark1 Stingray convertable, Morgan, 2 really nice E types, couple of late 60's Alfa Romeos, Hillman Hunter (i think), Austin Standard, Merc 350 gullwing (stunning).
As has been said crapply promoted, only saw the cars cause they blocked the road. |

I can't agree with the sly dig at the Observer Dr but otherwise you are spot on, and in fact their planning is so poor that the Sofitel contacted the Observer about the rally after our deadline which they should know (as they have a regular advert), and so we were not able to promote it in the December issue! This is true (the poor planning and promotion) of virtually every business in town that needs publicity - it's not just that they don't understand the power of HHAD and online promotion, they don't understand the value of any advertising or promotion! |

Not at all a dig at the Observer, Mr. Wanderlust the comment was regarding the fact the internet is infinite & immediate where as any print media is limited to the size of the print run and the quality of distribution, many of the local print media promise but don’t deliver the goods
No mention of the Observer was ever made; in fact the Observer has improved immensely over the past few years and continues to do so to all the teams credit …Other wise we wouldnt have a full page in there !
Are we a little hung over and touchy after yesterday’s festivities? _________________ "I don't often agree with the RSPCA as i believe it is an animals duty to be on my plate at supper time" |

Buksida/Dr Dave,
Thanks for the photos. I didn't realise that things such as classic car rallys even took place in Thailand - excellent. _________________ Green Army position 10 2007/08

Strangely enough not hungover, but obviously touchy!
Thanks for the nice comments and I apologise for my presumption. |

Don't get so tetchy Wander, you'll get used to being married soon enough!
The Dr's dig was at the Sofitel PR department that have obviously got their heads up their arses when it comes to promoting local events. _________________ Named must your fear be before banish it you can. |

Thank you, quite an eye opener. I had a good look at the photos and note that most of the riders/viewers were Thai. I'm obviously a bit naive, but I just never associated Thais with caring for such machines - I've always assumed all machines were sort of throwaway in the eyes of the average Thai person.
Maybe I should have realised when I see the way my son-in-law cares for his old Honda. _________________ Green Army position 10 2007/08
