My wife (who is Chinese) and I are thinking about getting out to HH again during Chinese New Year (next available break for us). This falls on February 13th this year, with New Year's Eve falling on the Friday (12th) - are there any Chinese communities in the area that celebrate the New Year festivities?

i'm chinese (a chinese chinese, not thai chinese...) living here, but i don't remember seeing any special festivities equivalent to what we have at home last year. not to mention any proper chinese restaurants here in huahin. the one in hilton is still thai chinese style and the food are not quite up to standard.
however, i heard hyatt is bringing in a guest chef from china from the 12th feb onwards, so hope the proper chinese food will please your wife.
BTW, eve of chinese new year is on the 13th feb this year.

two years ago there was a parade through town and a few smaller parades on side roads, but nothing seemed to happen last year at all.

With 'proper Chinese' are you referring to Cantonese food?

Thanks for the replies all - food's not a problem Clabibi as both my wife and I love Thai food, but thanks for the tip re: the Hyatt.

Market Village sounds good Pinky - please let me know if you hear anything regarding this year.

Hi stgrhe, I'm not sure if they will be serving cantonese food such as dim sums, but heard the chef is from Xian in China. hope to have a pleasant surprise because last year, when Hyatt brought in guest chefs from Tokyo, the food was amazing!

If anyone has seen any promotional ads anywhere, please do update us on the forum! =)

Clabibi - couldn't agree more, the "Chinese" food here is indeed substandard when compared to elsewhere including dare I say it Malaysia where Cantonese/Hokkien/Szechuan/Shanghainese/Foochow/Hakka/Nonya@Babba blends etc are also available. Yum, yum!!!

A Chinese friend told me that the Chinese here in LOS and HH are mostly Teow Chew and not really into the food and restaurant bizz.
Have just returned from Oz where I pigged out on Dim Sum and other Chinese delicacies (food) - HK chefs.

Gong He fat choi - the year of the Tiger.
