Hi there everyone

Thank Buksida for the nice iPhone 4 & more article i was about to Start a New Topic/thread about it! In the Digital Realm section.
One thing is for sure since I bought my iPhone 3GS last November or hmm.... Well my Aunt bought it 4 me as an aerly Christmas present and I'm still happy with with my iPhone and for the first time last ever last month I've been able to buy and get free Apps from the Apple iTunes s AppStore.
With my old iPhone 1 I had Cydia and Jailbreak on it but a major mistake while updating the firmwire reversed it!
I expect the iPhone 4 to Land on Thai shores within a month After the US  Release to counterpunch the Greyimports from Hong Kong.
Now with 2 Carriers here in Thailand it's gonna be à Race of who will Be the first to come out!

Your's the understudy live from Germany!!!

The new OS4 which can be installed on the 3G & 3GS and then later on iPad, allows multi-tasking (although not for 3G without the 'S' models). There's two new internet browser apps now, CloudBrowse and OperaMini, apparently Cloud supports flash, but it looks like there's something wrong with the whole thing to me!?!?

Here's some decent stuff regarding free apps and free website downloads ...
TV/Movies:
Think all the live TV apps may be payable, all seem around $3-5 Dollars etc, but you can watch (or download onto iPhone in 'mymedia') excellent picture quality (HD) TV programs and movies, try: 'iphonetvshows.net' and 'iphonemoviez.net'
Two Good Cameras:
'CameraPlus' - Zoom, tap auto-focus, simulated flash, email pics or upload to Flickr or Facebook from within camera app, ie: not have to do from main photo folder. Crop, rotate between landscape or portrait before saving pic.
'ZCam' - Take picture by tapping anywhere on the screen, 5xZoom, tap auto-focus, anti-shake
Multiple burst shots with burst shot timers. Edit pics brightness, Jpeg file compression in pic preview before saving. Email pics or upload to Flickr or Facebook from within camera app, ie: not have to do from main photo folder
Photo Editing:
'Photoshop' - For mobile and 'Facegoo Lite' – Joke for distorting peoples facial features etc
Useful Apps:
'Sportacular' – Updates sports scores every 30 seconds, shows upcoming fixtures and times, stats and teams. Choose the sports you want, ie: World Cup, football leagues, golf, American sports etc
'EasyWriter' – Type long email in landscape so keyboard is bigger, then dumps text into email body
'iTranslate' – Translate English to Thai
'Face Dial Lite' – Shortcut to speed dial common number, with their pics.
'Shazam' – Put iPhone next to music playing and in 15 seconds it finds the track, tags it and lets you open it in iTunes, YouTube etc. Also lists Artists discography etc.
Joke Apps:
'FakeCaller' - Pick someone from your contact list and set time delay for them to call. Shows their real number, pic etc. Also .... 'Virtual ZippoLighter', 'X-ray FX', 'MouthOff' and 'Lie Scan'
Games (apparently good, just copy/pasted this list!?):
NY Zombie, Go Karting, Racing Live, GTA Chinatown, Tap Tap Revenge, Labyrinth Lite, Sodoku, Lux Touch, Marble Mash, Space Deadbeef, Rogue, Topple.

Bought these in Market Village:

Excellent sound quality, and if you twist it open you get the bass.

This thing is brilliant, it has its own iPhone battery inside it. You can use it as a dock charger, charge it on its own, then if your phone battery is low you can attach it and hardly notice its there. Also when you attach it to your phone it doesn't just act as a spare battery but actually charges your phone back up while in your pocket.

Why does an iphone need two batteries?
My Nokia works for several days on one.

If the wife is a good example she uses it as an IPod, camera, game player, web browser and email machine...plus other mysterious applications I have no idea about. Even with all of that, she only seems to need to recharge about every 48 hours.

The above seems to be simply a security spare to have attached in the event you need it, i.e., a lot of outdoor activity and/or driving with no charger in the car. Pete

Basically because its thin, has a large screen and what some people use it for, ie: a lot of internet, email or playing media etc. It'd last 2 days ok if you were just doing a small amount of phoning and the above, but sometimes I go out in the morning and its low'ish and it won't see the day out. A lot depends on the brightness you adjust the screen too as well.

They're not actually bad compared to the other smartphones, Nokia's equivalent has 6.5hrs talk time on 2G, iPhone has 12 hours. I assume people who work with computers would have it on charge at work via USB.

I can just picture your Nokia now mate, apparently the next version has an sms facility :D

The iPhone is a battery hog, but (not wanting to be seen as a rabid Apple slut) it does do a bunch more stuff than your average Nokia.

Thanks for the app ideas, I'll download a few of them. No problem with a couple of bucks for the good ones but, being based in Thailand, the lack of credit card due to cockroach-farang status kind of stops me paying Mr Jobs for his marvelous software.

Figures sound impressive and I'm sure the Appleites are flogging their digital bishops but what they don't tell you is that 80% of those are probably just upgrading from their existing iPhone because their contract with AT&T has expired and they will get a discount.

Ok Appleites the unlock for iPhone iOS4 and 3.1.3 basebands is out:

http://www.iphonedownloadblog.com/2010/ ... available/

Downloaded ultrasn0w and unlocked the badboy so now can put my AIS 1-2-Call sim in it and make/receive calls.

A few questions for those in the know:

1) Although it recognises the sim and number all of my messages and contacts are gone (yes I stored them on the sim and not the old Nokia). Any way of retrieving them without inputting them all manually?

2) It wants to connect to GPRS/EDGE all of the time to update stuff. How do I stop this as I pay by hour and don't have an unlimited data contract?

There will be more questions but I'm glad to finally be able to use the iPhone as a phone!

I use bluetooth to connect my computer to my old phone and drag the contacts over to my computer, then change the sim over to my new phone and send the contacts via bluetooth back again. Never tried it with messages though.

Ok, got the contacts, there is an 'import from sim' setting in there.

Now if I can only stop it connecting to EDGE every 30 seconds and costing me a fortune I think we're there.

Oh, and the internet tethering would be good without iTunes too ...

That could be a tough one. The wife bought her unit through DTAC. To stop the automatic connection she had to call DTAC and have them turn it off. Appears no way to do it from the phone internally. I don't think AIS participates in an IPhone program, only Blackberry, so if you call them about this and ask to turn it off, I don't know what they'll say? Pete

My Nokia smart-phone was a pain for doing that when I first got it.
If you load all these programmes for getting things like news, weather forcasts and flight information they tend to assume you have an unlimited 3g service and connect whenever they want an update.
I eventually learnt either to turn off the automatic updates and do it manually from any free WLAN signals you come across or delete them altogether.
Some of them are a real pain as they revert to automatic if you change the SIM, which I found out after coming back from Thailand and losing all the credit off my phone in two days.

Thinking about what I said above, why would AIS care what type of phone you have...they really wouldn't or even know internally. I imagine you could tell them anything and ask them to simply turn off the automatic GPRS/EDGE connect. Pete

Ok, we've made a little progress, I've installed this http://cydia.saurik.com/package/sbsettings which enables me to physically toggle Edge/Data connections on and off. I've also disabled as many of the "auto connect" apps as I could find.

However, there is now a problem when I actually do want to go online with it using wifi; when the signal strength is too low it will automatically fire up the Edge connection again instead of waiting for the wifi to improve.

I can't call AIS to disable it as I need to use it when I'm out of town - I just don't want it on all the time. I may upgrade to a better data package and see how it goes: http://www.ais.co.th/dataservice-conten ... ckage.html

The worst case scenario is paying for the unlimited data service for a grand a month.

Now the next problem is tethering, which is using the phone's internet connection on a laptop - this was very easy with the old Nokia but it seems that Apple like making peoples lives difficult (contrary to the beliefs of their loyal worshipers)! I've tried a few things but still no joy so I may have to carry around the old Nokia and swap the sim when I want to use the laptop in the field.

And don't get me started on battery life :cuss:

(I've renamed the thread title to cover all things iPhone)
