Not sure if this is one anyone can help with? But with all the trips over the past couple of years while the house has been built, I now have enough airmiles for an upgrade on Thai, but only one way. Is it better to have a comfy sleep on the way over, or to enjoy the extra space and comfort for the 12 hours of daylight on the way back?
I can see the attractions of the former - if I have a decent bed, then I may as well use it. But on the other hand, sleep helps the flight pass quicker so if we're on the plane for 11 hours of light surely it should be better to use the extra comfort and leg room that way?
Having a really indecisive day. Actually having a really indecisive life.
Cheers

It's been a while since I flew Thai, but bearing in mind that they arrive at Heathrow at around 6am, I'd prefer the upgrade on the way back - assuming arrival time is still the same.
At least when you're coming over, the adrenalin/excitement of getting back here keeps you going if you havn't slept well. _________________ "I spent a lot of my money on booze, birds and fast cars - the rest I just squandered". George Best. |

I agree with Lomuamart. I have always done it that way. It is always sad to leave LOS but with the upgrade on the way back it makes the going back a little bit easier.

Jim, I used to be indesisive, but I am not quite sure now. If I got an upgrade to business (whatever way), why would you want to sleep.
Think of all the good quality wine and food that you would miss. Sod the sleep, enjoy the experience, PARTY ON.

| I am a Gold Card holder on Thai but find that most of the times you want to use the upgrades there is no space available in Business Class. I think that they only allocate a few seats for mileage upgrades. I recently got a Gold Card holder complimentary Birthday upgrade which had to be used within 3 months of the Birthday date. Guess what every flight I requested in December and January, no space available in Business class. |

I agree with all above.
Going to HH ,you're "up for it"
Upgrade going back.
It'll help with the "post Hua Hin " blues!

I think I would for go for the upgrade on the way back as I think it would be a bit of a wind up enjoying business on the way out with the thought that you would have to endure steerage on your return.
As another Thai gold card holder I agree that there is never a guarantee you will get the upgrade you seek, especially over busy periods, but I have been luckier with my upgrades always getting the upgrades I have requested, even the birthday upgrades.
Last year I had booked business so upgraded to first, now that was the dogs thingies and really does spoil you. This Christmas I am flying via Hong Kong to take advantage of my Virgin miles.
Good luck |

Governor,
Don't you get free passage in the diplomatic bag anymore in the UK. _________________

No diplomatic bag I'm afraid, don't think my girth would squeeze in - but at least my Virgin miles were earned on official business.
Retirement looming as is sitting at the back where I always thought the luggage was stowed. |

I am having the same problem with “miles and more”; I’ve got enough points for two free flights now, but every time I try to book one, the only flights available are midweek, which somewhat clashes with my work schedule. I think I am going to end up using them to buy merchandise, but comparatively it’s not worth the 800-1000 euros that a flight costs. |
