I was in San Paulo hospital yesterday getting my daily dose of iodene and a new dressing on my wound. I couldn't help noticing a young English chap who was being attended to by a gaggle of doctors and nurses.
I was trying to work out what had happened to him. The sole of his foot was red raw. Initially, I thought it was a motorcycle accident, but as I was leaving I got chatting to his girlfriend.
It turned out that they'd been doing voluntary work at an elephant camp in Petchaburi. Well, elephants have to go to the toilet, so there's this big pile of dung that has been set on fire. Although the flames are out, it's still smoldering and the English guy steps on it. He received second degree burns.
I don't generally have a laugh at other peoples' expense, but I couldn't contain my laughter when the situation was explained to me. BTW, the man was OK and his girlfriend saw the funny side as well.
Anyone else got some "strange accident" stories? |
