Can I get some advice on UBC connections. I have 1 TV, I Dish, I receiver. I want to hook up atleast 1 more TV to UBC, but I want to be able to watch 2 different programs. What do I do? I assume I need a second receiver, but do I need a second ssubscription to UBC?? I am electronically inept.... |

i understand the set up is:
1 dish
1 splitter unit (serves 10 set top boxes)
2 set top boxes
2 smart cards
1 monthly subscription fee
i havent done it though, so please check this out
as an aside, truevision pvr is available now, in uk we know it as sky plus
watch 1 channel and record another, store hours and hours of recorded programmes, 'series' recording, full week programme guide, pause/rewind 'live' tv etc etc
you have to buy the new pvr set top box obviously
.

I think you have to buy their own dvd recorder as with the standard one you cannot record and watch another channel at th esame time. I think thats the case but may be wrong _________________ A man is not truly dead unless he is also forgotten. |

not 100% sure what you mean niggle about the dvd recorder
the new pvr set top box has a built-in hard drive, you can record upto 140 hours of tv, no discs involved
you can watch 1 channel and record another or record 2 channels at the same time if not watching another
are you saying if you want to record to a dvd (disc) to keep, you need their own brand dvd machine not your normal one ?
i cant wait, just think:
as soon as the installation team have left
'series record' meerkats
140 hours of meerkats standing up with their little heads twitching from side to side
and those eyes ............. ahem

Hi there Niggle
I have an Idea. When you have the TrueVsiions PVR/DVR you can hook up a DVD Recorder to it. and when you like the Program that you have on your TrueVisions/UBC PVR/DVR than you can record the program from the PVR/DVR onto a DVD Disk.
I'm no Digital equipment expert but if someone has tried this befroe please post and share your expirience.
Thank God/Bhuddha that Truevisions had also Jumped on the Digital Program Recording Bandwagon. Awefully late but better than never. I was wishing that TrueVisions/UBC had some kind of that service too when visited the United States and Discovered TiVo.
Hey maybe there can be an intregration of both systems for Thai Digital TV as the Analog System has to go eventually. TiVo con co-operrate with TrueVisions with Progamm Management and providing Set Top boxes with both logos. As TiVo by Truevisions.

Thanks for the info. What is the price of a digital recorder. I had one back home, but they were very expensive at the time. Back to my original question, should I use a splitter, or does UBC dishes allow more than one cable output?. Ha ha..maybe i should just move my fat ass up the ladder and check, instead of asking so many questions... . Where is the best place to buy the second receiver, and smart card?
thanks |

1 sat. dish and blackbox for one television. If you want other UBC channels to see in another room you have to get one more set.
Advise to rent and not to buy.
Baht 18800 and a few satangs per year/one month free. |

Just a warning about the UBC installers! ( Dont know how many crews they have out but I wont have them back in my house again ever. )
The crew I got were careless idiots and I believe the ringleader was on something!
Anyway, it took four of them ten minutes to even locate my dish, they nearly broke a trellis trying to climb it, they were in the office ( nowhere near the TV) looking for wires, they wandered about the house at will, they left loose wires which I had to go up on the roof and fasten into place. . .and this was just to attach a second TV to a wire already in place ( just move the UBC box from one room to the other. ) I could have done it myself with the right connector. Took them at least 30 minutes to do this simple task and they left without a word when they were finished. I was really happy to see them go. |
