Not to sure about why Lev is resting? Has he been working too hard? _________________ "Do you expect me to talk", No Mr. Bond I expect you to die! |

| Same-same for me, coming from Shanghai on the 24th of April. I walked to the arrivals queue outside, the lady insisted that I'd pay 2,200 baht, and I did. Higher fuel prices, maybe. Sometimes they'll bargain by 200 baht, so I said "He pays tolls and that includes airport fee, yes?" Yes. |

Surely having a taxi to yourself or self and g/f and a bit of freedom to stop for a drink or pee if you want one at 2,00 Baht is not cheap charlie.
Cheap Charlie must be the 128 Baht bus or minivan with no leg room. _________________ Learn all the rules so you know how to break them. |

We always use a Taxi from Hua Hin when we come to Thailand. We always use the same guy - just let him know what flight we're arriving on, and he's always been there. It actually saves a few baht on what you other 'Charlie Cheap' guys are paying, and does away with the need to barter after a long gruelling journey.
We don't do it to be cheapskates (after paying an airfare from UK to Thailand, what's a few extra baht?) - we just like rewarding good service.
If we go on any extended trips from Hua Hin, we also use the same guy - this loyalty thing works both ways ie he knows were going to keep coming back, and we know that we're going to get a safe driver, with a decent, well maintained vehicle, at a very competitive price. |

I always use the taxis at the airport when I arrive. The problem is the ones that do the airport run are usually old and knackered so the journey to Hua Hin takes about 4 hours.
For the return journey I book one of the cars at the roadside in Hua Hin which are cheaper with a bit of negotiation and modern and faster so only take about 2 hours.
Last time was from outside Jed Pee Nong hotel and a large Volvo with massive seats and very comfortable. _________________ Learn all the rules so you know how to break them. |

Pagey,
You've summed up what I said earlier very nicely ie
| Quote: | | the ones that do the airport run are usually old and knackered so the journey to Hua Hin takes about 4 hours |
| Quote: | | the cars at the roadside in Hua Hin which are cheaper with a bit of negotiation and modern and faster so only take about 2 hours |
| Quote: | | a large Volvo with massive seats and very comfortable |
You are saying the taxis from the roadside are newer, cheaper, faster and more comfortable. We worked that out as well. So....................develop a working relationship with one of these taxis, ask for his card (they all have them) - next time you want a taxi, phone him. Develop the relationship. He'll get to know you, and you'll get a reliable service - he'll have built up a good source of income.
A win-win situation that works. |
