The MODS will probably come down on me now as this is probabbly a recurring topic.... Embarassed

Does anyone transfer money to Thailand on a regular basis ?

When I am on vacation I use the ATM, Barclays, (when it's working), I usually end up buying a lump sum on my debit card as I suffer from one withdrawal and then blocked. However, that cost me over 20 quid to buy 40,000 Baht.

When I come to live I want a cheaper option of transferring money. Hargreaves Landsdowne will transfer over 10,000 GBP for free and any amount under that is 15 quid.

I do not have a UK address so I think opening a new account with Nationwide and using their ATM for free will be a no no.

A little search before starting a new thread is always a good advise Pagey.

We're about a month and a half past the last round on this issue. Since then, has anyone transferred in over 20K USD marked as "property purchase", or, less than 20K marked as nothing, and had any problems? Pete Cheers

Pete,

Not exactly answering your question, but since the last round I have transferred 3 amounts just a couple of English pounds below the 20K USD mark with nothing marked - no problems.

Thanks BB. Was that into an account with your name, you wife's name or joint? Pete Cheers

PS: I ask as I want to see if any snags if the sending party is not the same account name as the receiving party. A Thai friend and I got into trouble some years ago was they wanted to tax the incoming transfer as income to him. It wasn't, but took time to make them believe it.

That was in to Thai friend's account in Khon Kaen. Because of her urgent need, and the fact she had to return to Thailand quickly, she gave me the money and asked me to transfer it at weekly intervals to avoid any potential problem of the money being impounded.

It gave my bank account quite a boost for a couple of weeks - unfortunately the money's gone again now, and my account is in its usual state - bare.

Norseman, read all the links at home last night and none of them are related.

Maybe you all have an income in Thailand so do not need to import money to live.

I may have to transfer money to live on if I do not obtain a business.

Cheers Cheers

My pension is sent to me every month from my bank account abroad to my bank account in Thailand.
Easy and no problem at all.
The cost is equal to 1,6 GBP each month.
