THE GENE BAR AND THE BAND WHO PLAYED THERE

I AM RETURNING to huahin in october after a 15 month absence one of my fav haunts was the gene bar next to the tor bar loved to get up in there ansd sing and jam with the band

i have heard rumours that A) the bar is closed B) the band no longer play there

if the rumours are true what happened to the band and is there another bar where live rock music is played ?

The band moved to El Murphy's, where I believe they play weekdays. As far as I know, they're still there.

Yes Dawn, you are right. The band now play at Murphy's Monday thru Friday, starting at 9, finishing at midnight.

I was there 3 weeks ago and went there most nights. They're really playing well and went out with the lead guitarist/vocalist for a few beers after the gig.

One night we had a pool competition after the gig - England v Thailand. My mate, myself and 2 members of the band. We each played each other, which finished 2-2, then the decider was the doubles game. We sneaked it and I got the lady in the bar to write up on the board England 3 Thailand 2 . . . was great fun and definitely brought Anglo/Thai relations to a new high.

The band are very happy right now, El Murphys pretty pretty much renovated the bar to accommodate them. They play other gigs when we can find them, they played a private birthday party on the 3rd, and will be at Johnnie Walkers on the 17th May for my birthday.

They are a great set of guys and deserve all of their success.

You'll find El Murphy's 25 Soi Selakam.
That is not far from Gene Bar in Binthabat and it's not closed.
