I was trying to access Travelzoo to find out about cheap tickets. It is a source of information on
cheap tickets, not of sleaze. I was using a link on Wunderweather site.

The Thai Ministery of Communication and Information Technology, in their infinite wisdom and
very aptly displaying the skills and discerment one has learnt to expect of the Thai official has chosen
to blok the site:

( Sorry! the web site you are accessing has been blocked by ministry of information and communication technology )

And, of course they (remember, we are talking about The Thai Ministery of Communication and Information Technology)
would not post anything else in English, now give an address one could utilize to point out their mistake.

No, not the The Thai Ministery of Communication and Information Technology, not them!
They are about Communication and Information Technology so naturally they do not know how to
communicate, nor how to use information technology.

It really is 1984 and the Little Brown Blocking Machines stricketh again.

Farang,

Whereas I agree totally with your statements regarding the incompitence of the authorities and the inablity of the MoC&It' to communicate and grasp the basics of IT, I think in this case what you have stumbled on is a problem with one of the Thai MoC's vetting machines.

Unlike some countries, Thailand uses positive vetting. I.e a site is listed as unavailable when it contains data that is considered unsuitable for consumption or is illegal (in the view of the Thai authorities of course). Somebody would have to view the site and then copy the URL and IP adresses to the vetting system to make it unacceptable.

Also I would expect, but am not sure, that if the system got no reponse in a resonable time it would give the benefit of doubt to the ISP and allow the site to pump out data to the requestor. If that is not the case it could explain why you got a block message.

Other explanations could be that an erroneous URL was entered onto the system, you stumbled across a bug or an IP address had just been adopted that had previously been in use by a banned site.

Both Travelzoo and Wunderweather are perfectly legitimate sites and accessible from Thailand on TT & T at least (not that the actual ISP should make any difference as the MoC vets all of them with the same systems).
