Hi kevars.
I don't know the thai law, but see if you can find something here:

| I don't know if it's actually written in the Thai Law, but age old practice seems to be that male children go with the Mother and female with the Father. This is of course in normal cases where no abuse or other bad circumstances exist. Pete |

I have just heard of a case where a 14 year old girl wanted to leave her mother and stay with her farang stepfather. It was determined that she could not do so unless she could prove to the authorities that she had been abused (which I bekieve she had) until she was 18.
However the case may have been different if the natural father was involved. _________________

All joking aside, many may not know that in the State of Hawaii USA, the age of consent is 15. This was raised from either 13 or 14 by the State legislature around 2002-3. Check other States in the South on the mainland...some are similar.
One may ask "why" is the age so low? History...Hawaii when populated by Japanese, Okinawans, Taiwanese, Koreans as sugarcane field workers in the early last century and late 1800's, about 60% of new borns did not reach age 1. Life expectancy was short therefore the early age of consent was to stabilize/increase the population. Every, and I mean every local family in Hawaii celebrates a childs 1st birthday like it was the biggest thing to ever happen to that family. The traditions and memories live on. It's called Kamaina (family)
Laws change slowly in the USA, some States have statutes on the books from the 1700's dealing with witches and runaway horses causing damage, and everything you can imagine in between.
Why do I mention this?..not because I chase 15 year olds here in LOS...because of the "wonderful" newspaper add that appears from time to time in the Bangkok Post and elsewhere saying....." I was once innocent....so was she.. commit a crime in Thailand with a person under 18...spend 30 years in a US prison..."
Horseshit and unenforcable law and horseshit tactics...someone let me know where USA State law was ever over ridden by this Federal scare tactic? Pete
PS: Oops..forget to mention, therefore the edit. Another challenge.
Someone please find some Thai law which states what the age of consent is between male and female? There is none...(therefore the swollen bellies of 12 year old Issan girls) It's an apparition, snarled at you by TRT social workers who also dictate drinking hours and places where and where not you can smoke but...then install condom machines in schools?
End of subject for me unless someone has news on new laws overriding what I have said.
My point is THE LAW, ...something this country and others ignore time and time again if convenient. |

I know and I'm sorry. I needed a rant and a vent but I should have done it elsewhere and not messed up your thread. Pete |

Pete - great rant
Worthwhile and well stated - especially following your earlier post and that of Guess - although somewhat off topic in parts.......
Is the farang factor taken into account?
