|
|
Hi
Does anyone know if there is a local DVD shop where the staff actually have a clue about what they are selling?
I have been trying to find a dvd or vcd of the King Naresuan movies that have english subtitle tracks.....the ones in the shops I have found only have Thai subs....or is this me being daft again and assuming that the Thai film companies actually know that some farangs like their work?
Id also like to get my hands on Ghost Game, The Legend of Suriyothai, and some others.....
I have been banging my head against a brick wall of clueless staff who when asked just look blankly at me or my lass with a bemused smile....in one place in Market Village they didnt even know the difference between the vcd and dvd (both of which are Thai language only) |

There is a video shop on Naebkheharn, about 50m. south of Chomsin, more or less opposite the 7/11.
They have a good selection, and I have always found them to be both helpful and knowledgeable. They will allow you to view any dvd before you purchase, so you can see the languages and subtitles. They speak a little (but just a little) English.
You can also order Thai movies from them, provided you can speak Thai. |

| I have come across a few Thai DVDs with English sub-titles, but not in Hua Hin, only at the airport and in places like Singapore, but I imagine you can get them in Bangkok. |

Trawl the bars
Forget the shops
Tell them what you want and they deliver
If they don't work they will always take back

| Go to the guy in the Grand Market that actually gives you the box to put the DVD's in. I've been buying from him for a few years and if I ever have a dodgy one, he has always changed it for me. If you can't see what you want, I'm sure he can get it for you. |

Thanks for the advice guys
The sellers in the bars dont do Thai films usually...when I have asked they say they dont copy their own films....I have got some Korean and Japanese films off them but no Thai. Bang Rajan (aka The Village of Warriors) was one that I bought back in the UK...the bar guys didnt even recognise it when I showed them the cover.....
I had a chat with a mate up in BKK who works in film marketing and he reckoned that the Thai film industry is a bit underfunded so they save costs on DVD production by releasing them in Thai only for a few years ..... seems a bit daft if they want to market their films outside Thailand but he just shrugged and said "Thats Thailand..."
Its a shame because Asian cinema is really taking off back west, and the Thais are missing out on a slice of the international market...they do make some cracking films too. Ghost Drum, Bang Rajan and the others I named above are good films - better than most of the crap coming out of Hollywood.
Will try the Chomsin shop with my lass Amy and see if they can help
Thanks again mates! |
