Happy Constitution Day!
Norwegian Constitution Day or "grunnlovsdag," commonly known as "Syttende Mai" or the 17th of May is a celebration of the day in 1814 when Norway’s constitution was signed in the town of Eidsvoll, Norway.
Is this something you guys celebrate or is a bit like us Brits and St. George's Day, no one ever remembers untill it's past. _________________ Per Angusta In Augusta.

The Norwegian constitution was introduced in 1814.
Every Norwegian knows this.
We were once again a free country after a 400-year long union with Denmark.
We became an independent state in a loose union with Sweden, a situation which was to last for almost 100 years, until 1905 when we got our own king.
17 May is a wonderful and unique experience for visitors to Norway.
The carnivals of South America are probably the closest comparison.
With songs, students' end of school celebrations and the children's parade instead of military parades, we show the world who we are.
Everyone is welcome to join the party in Norway. _________________ I intend to live forever -- so far, so good. |
