No idea, their old website and successful online audio stream at surfhuahin.com was shut down due to non payment and a falling out between the DJ's and the owners sometime last year.

Bugger knows what they're up to these days.

Yah Buksida!!!
you are right it's very sad to see Hua Hin's only english go off th Air. I Hope those owners haven't sold all the broadcasting equipment tomak a quick profit. if they do than thre's no hope in resurrecting the Stain once again. BU Hope is usally th last thig to fade wwy.

they are still broadcasting via 102.5 FM

I think it is being run on auto cue most of the time, but it is also airing some ads, so I guess they are still in business somehow. I DJed there a couple of times for the fun of it, and back then is was pretty much just 2-3 guys running the show, of which none are still there... lack of DJs ist the only problem I think...

If anyone feels like doing some voluntary DJing, I am sure they'd be interested Wink

I too did some DJing / football punditry with a mate Terry. I really enjoyed it but sadly, I wouldn't like to go back to the studio after Gee R.I.P. and Dr Dave R.I.P. who were the mainstay DJ's for surf fm while I was there.

Anyone wishing to volunteer will indeed be welcome, but they should be aware the technical stuff was mostly done by Dr Dave who almost single handedly kept the place running. After he left the station went downhill, and the broadcasts are now dull, intermittent and technically poor.

Also, beware - a work permit is a requirement to be DJ on radio even if it is voluntary. You are taking a risk.

I should mention Matt was a big player in getting the thing running at the start and who can forget the famous Rock shows by our resident Mr Cornhole the Randy ole devil!

When I was back a few weeks ago I tried listening to Surf whilst driving around the area and it wasn’t very entertaining compared with before. I appreciate that many listeners are not so young, indeed I’m well over forty myself, but most of the stuff I heard was from way back into the fifties and early sixties.
I’m not saying that no good music came from that period, only that something a bit more mainstream would appeal to more listeners.
Actually I’m trying to be polite here; my partner said it was for people who died twenty years ago!

Its a shame as that had the potential to be a top station, back in the days when Matt was running around town doing DJ nights and plugging it, the G and Dr Dave spinning the tunes and who could forget Randy's Rock Show. HHAD also assisted with the promotion of their online audio stream which attracted listeners across the globe.

Sadly its all gone downhill now as the owners thought they could do a better job without farangs and immigration started sniffing around.

I really used to enjoy working there, but when immigration started sniffing around we all had to scarper.
I don't think I could work there again as it brings back too many sad memories. Happy ones as well..... Very Happy

Thought about it but as you say the red tape involved for a foreigner to run a radio station is obscene so it wouldn't really be worth the effort unless it had a sponsor with deep pockets and high connections (and not a Greek) - especially since a whole bunch of new stations have recently sprung up in HH.

Also thought of doing an internet only broadcast which is technically quite easy to setup - the only problem there is getting a decent enough high bandwidth internet connection that doesn't cost the earth - again Hua Hin is probably the wrong place for this!

Hi there Y'all

I have to agree with Buksida's Statement right there where really red Tape is involved for Foreigners to open and possably own a Radio Station here in Thailand. To find people who has enough Financial Power to Sponsor the Station would be a constant task for the Marketting Dept. as have to find a constant flow of Money to keep it running.
Yeah Ican remember the Days back in Germany every morning around 8am after I woke up doing the Morning Hygene ect. and than @ my Laptop to check out the latest News what happened @ night and listen to Surf FM had really help ease my withdrawal Syntoms of Hua Hin while I'm abroad. I can Remember Dr, Dave had an entire Four in a Row Raegge Music Session put in for me. I was sitting there in Germany almosting melting away listening to those relaxing, exilherating, Groovy Tunes of Reagge Music. It's really sad to read that the epuipment is not naken care after the new owners. This really dissing ones off all the Money love and Effort put into this Surf FM Project by Dr. Dave and Mr. Matt put into this was really worth and should be continued

When i listen to PCN 105 FM at 19:00 hrs they go over to a half hour news broadcast and public announcments in Thai. maybe they have some deal with the local government. Why don't HHAD do a pole to the forum, just to gauge the amount of intrest and wot could be done about it this could be quite an intresting topic. Very Happy
