|
|
Have just started using Firefox again and have just noticed that there is now a spell check in the text entering section on HHAD.
If you spell a word incorrectly a red line appears under the offending word.
Is this a feature that is only available when using Firefox or is a new addition to the site.

I use IE6 (work) & IE7 (home) and have never seen it.
I've got to rely on my Google Task Bar spell checker. _________________ Green Army position 22

Its a feature of all the better browsers and nothing to do with HHAD, however much buksida might want to take credit for it! |

Wanderlust, thanks for that I thought it might have been because I checked again in IE 6 & 7 and no sign of it.

| It's a nifty little feature but I really don't like the way it underlines British English e.g. 'realise' and tries to get you to use the US spelling 'realize'. Colour is also underlined. Even though I set all my preferences to UK English, I still get these annoying little red lines! The US is now invading our language!!!!! I WILL NEVER SURRENDER! I WILL NEVER SPELL COLOR!!!! |

Kelpie, I am used to that in Word as i think it must be set up for USA English. I carry put automotive technical writing and all the time mouldings are changed to moldings, colour is changed to color and as you say realise is realize etc, etc.
I use it that much that I just ignore them. I am sure if we look into the system there is a setting for UK English.
I will check and advise.

Indeedy, by avoiding Microshite and using a superior browser you get it built in but I do object the fact that it underlines "buksida" ... _________________ I've got a bad feeling about this |

chelsea,
Within Word, you choose Tools, Language, Set Language and then choose English(UK) _________________ Green Army position 22

Please folks just accept that nothing remains the same and that langauge too is destined to evolve.
If you drop a letter in spelling thats great, streamlining, and an increase in productivity.
Why say "turnover" which is confusing when you can just say "profit" ?
Think Webster's Dictionary and the concept of KISS. _________________ Coming soon to a developing country near you |

Mainly because turnover and profit are two completely different things. _________________ Never argue with a man carrying a water buffalo... |

Or why call it maths for cultural preservation reasons when the word math will do? _________________ Coming soon to a developing country near you |

Is that not a line from 1984?
Bring on the Newspeak dictionary. Get rid words so talk easy do. |

Big Boy,
That is indeed one way to do it, but the default template document is always set to US English, so it is better to open a new document, change it to UK English in the way you describe and then save it as the default template, then every time you open a new document it will be in UK English without any more fiddling about. |

Of course - I was just giving the resonse to chelsea's question. Yours is, of course, a much better 'long term' solution; and reflects the way my software set up. _________________ Green Army position 22

I always use the English spellcheck because the American one disagrees with the correct use and spelling of the 'English' language.
| da wrote: | | Or why call it maths for cultural preservation reasons when the word math will do? |
Sorry, can't and never will accept 'math' - mathematics or maths (with an 's') is a science, just like physics (with an 's'). It's nothing to do with cultural preservation, it's writing good English. While we're on the subject, why have Americans thrown away all adverbs?
Not having a go at you Da, but I do cringe at what's happening to the English language.
