Hope you all enjoyed and survived - but Lomu - if the date is changed to 15th/16th, surely it will just mean an extension to the proceedings? I can't see Thais just disregarding the 13th cos of a silly ministerial idea, can you? So it could end up being from 13th to 16th inclusive, plus travelling time of course. Probably right there, Mags.
I'd need a liver transplant if the festivities went on for more than a day. Don't reckon I could handle Pattaya, BKK or Chiang Mai over Songkran.
We all survived to experience another year, but I reckon town was noticably quieter than previous ones. _________________ "I spent a lot of my money on booze, birds and fast cars - the rest I just squandered". George Best. |

Bearing in mind Jockey's attempt to hoodwink us on April 1st, I had to look twice to make sure I wasn't in a time warp and realise that it isn't April 1st any more.
Mind you, something needs to be done to reduce the carnage.

Chalerm mulling ban on alcohol
Sales would be halted at start and end of festival

Chalerm mulling ban on alcohol
Alcohol sales will be banned over Songkran festivals in the future, if the road toll this year exceeds targets.
Interior Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung will consult the public first, he says, but he's keen on prohibiting booze sales on the first and last days of the annual, traditional new-year celebration.
Alternatively, the hours alcohol can be legally sold could be tightened from the current restrictions.
The road toll for the first two days of Songkran this year reached 104 dead and 1,411 injured, according to the Road Safety Centre. However, the Narenthorn Emergency Medical Institute says the toll as at 5pm yesterday is 143 dead and many more injured.
The Road Safety Centre says Saturday saw 743 road accidents killing 59 and injuring another 854.
The so-called "seven dangerous days" of Songkran started on Friday.
Transport permanent secretary and centre member Chaisawat Kittipornpaibool says the main cause of accidents, once again, is drunk driving, with alcohol responsible in almost 42 per cent of all accidents.
Emergency call outs have almost trebled from last year to more than 2,600, says Public Health Minister Chaiya Sasomsap.
But, again this year, emergency hotlines are besieged with at least one hoax call every minute.

take one normal human being
remove most braincells, and fill empty space left with tired rhetoric and sawdust. Poke in eyes till myopic.
Affix large and powerful spring to one knee with trigger sensitive to potential politically embarassing situations.....
simmer for two months in an ever hotter political climate.....
place in suit, put behind desk, and give access to media....
hey presto
Interior Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung - a man who couldnt find his arse if someone hung Big Ben off it!
when is this dimwit ever gonna work out that alcohol bans dont work, and maybe getting the cops to get off their arses and do some proper law enforcement would possibly work????
Answer...never. TIT!!!

Well I'm no longer a songkran virgin and had a blast! What a great day and I met some nice folks along the way. I'm not sure how I could get fed up with it as it's essentialy one day once a year. Even recovered sufficiently to head back to town later in the evening - not sure how I managed that?
I'll look forward to my next one now. _________________ I know nothing |
