Pete :( |
I've got to drive from Hua Hin to Buriram on Monday for a friends wedding, has anyone got any idea how bad that is likely to be. |

Very.
Did a similar journey a number of years back over the Songkran period ... it took more than 24 hours, but we had some fun on the way! _________________ I've got a bad feeling about this |

24 hours, bloody hell, I'm going to have to leave before I arrive in Thailand! Now there's a challenge.
Thanks for the info anyway Buksi. |

It's ashame you have to go to HH first, you're almost doubling the trip. If you can get a domestic flight into Korat I think you're only about 100km away then? Pete |

| Pete, I have to go down to Hua Hin to pick up my partner and some friends, and then drive up there; I think I will have to drive through Sunday night but it doesn’t sound like it’s going to be much fun. |

Drove from BKK down to Cha Am Thursday afternoon (left BKK at 2pm). Journey was wonderful, a little over 3 hours. Traffic a little busy, with some short queuing.
Overall, no problem.
Considering the easy road conditions, and the daylight hours, I was stunned at the number of accidents that I seen. All Pickups, except a few trucks, all involving only a single vehichle, just going off the road, rolling over and finishing in the centre ditch facing wrong way.
No accidents seen on Rama II, all on Phetkasem, think I saw more than 10!

Pete,
Is this a running total, or the total for the day please? _________________ Green Army position 18

I'm getting it right off my cell phone SMS news alerts sent by the Bangkok Post several times a day. They specifically and clearly said that this is "yesterday's count, for day 2 of the 7". It read as if a separate number for day 2 only. If you did read the hard copy of the Bangkok Post this morning, the figures do not agree with what they are sending out on SMS. We'll see tomorrow, and what the SMS messages say for tomorrow. Pete

OK, I didn't dump the message yet, here it is in it's entirety:
"57 were killed, 799 injured in road accidents nationwide yesterday, the second of seven dangerous days over the Songkran period. Phitsanulok tops the list - 7 died". Pete
PS: That would make the two day total: 108 dead, 1,345 injured. |

latest from The Nation:
Death toll reaches 98 Friday
Road accidents have claimed 98 lives in the first two days of the Songkran period, Interior Minister Aree Wongsearaya said Friday.
The number of people injured during the period was 1,234.
"Drunk driving was responsible for 40.03 per cent of 1,067 accidents on Wednesday and Thursday. The numbertwo cause is speeding, which accounted for about 19.3 per cent of the accidents," Aree said in his capacity as chairman of the Road Safety War Room.
There were 632 road accidents on Thursday alone, claiming 57 lives and leaving 720 injured. Most involved motorcycles.
Officials are manning 3,251 checkpoints across the country in a bid to enforce traffic laws and enhance road safety.
Checks on 1,819,299 vehicles so far have led to 38,950 people being punished for breaking traffic laws. The most common offences were failure to carry a driving licence, failure to wear a crash helmet and failure to wear a safety belt.
