It's quite up here in Chiangers too.
All the bars are quieter than last year. More room for us dudes to walk the sois and roads without the samsonite brigade taking it up all the time Mr. Green

It's quieter because........(or so I've heard)

1) Andaman area now recovered from Tsunami and substantially operational touristwise.
2) Baht is very strong against tourist currencies.
3) People are nervous of a military government - (So when has it ever been any different?)
4) The troubles in the South - Hua Hin is in the South - So we have streets full of self detonating Muslims - yehright Rolling Eyes

Maybe Th is getting its wish and is appealing to a different clientele now? You know the sort, stay in a pricey hotel and only occasionally venture out. Thats what my sister did when they stayed at the Sofitel as they liked it so much.

I posted elsewhere that I thought the price of accommodation had gone up across the board, to the point where some places I have stayed at in the past I no longer regard as providing value for money. The last place I stayed at has virtually doubled the price. Not dear in the grand scheme of things, but in relation to the overall package of getting there, hiring a vehicle, travelling around etc. it all adds up.

Still, its early yet, be interesting to hear what its like mid-January.

TAT would say bookings are up.

I just checked the flight availabilty (out of London) across a range of airlines and it looks like flight loadings are lower than usual. Thai are quite full until about 10 Jan then plenty of seats after that. Most of the other favourites are failry open.

The increased taxes and fuel surcharges have upped the fares particularly from blighty.

Personally I like it quite but I don't have a business to run!

with the dollar so strong airlines fly more to USA etc, more for your dollar, let the kids go to disney anyway, the yanks need all the help they can get.
