I guess someone on HHAD has done this, so how?

It seems there are long-standing issues dealing with receipt of payments in Thailand, in terms of the non-working immigration rules. I am (since yesterday...) based in Thailand, and will be for the forseeable future.

It seems also, that to have payment made to the UK or to the US, in spite of non-residence there, could open me to taxation issues in those juresdictions. I have been non-resident of the UK since 1992, and have never been resident in the US. My most recent resident situation was Germany and that is now wholly inappropriate, having ceased in 2006.

I browsed the fora on google, but most of the comment is from 2006 or early 2007. Does anyone know the state of play here today? If I am seen to be receiving payments into Thailand, am I toast? I can pay to a UK Channel Islands account, but of course the money laundering flag gets aired pretty quickly these days if one does that. In fact, in real terms, for sterling, that is the *only* route I can go currently. I can service USD payments relatively easy but the online business is very UK centric so Sterling will be the issue.

I guess I will have the same basic issue with all affiliate programs. I can see issues particularly with VAT from bookstores (not applied in the UK, but everywhere else, so I could receive VAT applied affiliate income, and not have a liability...). Any comment, gratefully received.

Adsense can pay you in local currency which you can put into a Thai bank, not sure if they can do transfers to accounts overseas.

Providing your income is generated overseas I don't think it matters, many people work on websites and undertake online activities for income and live in tropical countries such as Thailand as it is very difficult to check up on.

Unless immigration have started clamping down on that now though I cant see them having the manpower to go into every Farangs house and wade through their computer files! Rolling Eyes

Sure, I can't see them doing that, but there might be a protocol say where farang bank accounts receiving regular deposits are flagged. Many similar things happen in Europe (invisibly) because of the money laundering paranoia. It is a situation I'd rather avoid, but if people are doing it and it isn't being flagged, then it is probably OK. It *seems* safer to do it offshore, but I am cutting my financial ties to the UK (again) completely, so it would have to be offshore in the channel islands, as all the business is sterling denominated. As I say, this sets other flags a-wavin Crying or Very sad

Thanks. G
