as i understand it, the banks can remit out of thailand under 20,000 USD per day without having to get BoT authorisation
ive done it before no problem, all i had to do was fill in a form and the lady told me the reason to put down, she said 'sending money to help family'
this from bank of ayudhya website:
5.The amount of each transfer must not less than USD 100 and may not exceed USD10,000 per transaction but not over USD 20,000 per day
this from bangkok bank website:
Any transfer of more than USD 20,000 must be notified to the Bank of Thailand and transfers of more than Bt2 million must be notified to the Anti-Money-Laundering Office

ps: i can almost guarantee that if you want to remit a substantial amount they'll say "no can do"
might be worth taking print off their website with you
