Retirement - what to do?

My plans are for the wife and I to retire to Hua Hin 3-4 years from now. She has property and we will probably build.

Money will be fine, not to jet to Paris for lunch, but comfortable.

My concern is what to do?

I'm adding 50+ hours to my leisure time a week. I like to keep busy, will be relatively young (50's) so am concerned about being bored.

Not a big golfer, maybe 1-2 times a month is all I want.

Love to dive, but limited in the area, and also not a everyday event.

I enjoy a drink, or two, but not a out with the boys every night either.

Never been a big TV watcher.

I've heard from clients, "don't worry you'll be busy", but curious with what??

So to those retired, what do you do all day? What's a typical day for those with a lot of time?

just 2 months into it now
have been busy doing up the house and getting used to thai time keeping Shoot em up

if you buy something you only have 14 days for replacment as far as i can see was sold a duff sub woofer very suspect it was a returned one in the begining normally in europe you would be given a replacment on the spot no so here 2 week 2 month fix will call when ready !!!!!!
you will be busy doing all this stuff for the first month or so
buy your new car told 1 month have normal reg plate 2 months later still driving around on red one which has weird restrictions you cant drive after 6 at night and you cant leave prachup !!!!!!!!!mad rules but there are some mib who will releive you of cash for this Rolling Eyes

then get into the lazy routine oh hell ill do it tomorrow heheh
very easy to slip into Rolling Eyes

as nothing has urgency on it anymore
your retired take it slowly chill out play the odd game of golf go to the beaches
afew beers at night in some friendly hostilery ear plugs for can you buy me dink some a little push on this subject Rolling Eyes

teach your self to smile like your comatosed at times when the beggars come and the flower girls

You could take up fishing one day a week Cool

Great stress reliever - recommended by me & therapists the world over.

Apart from golf, there's go-karting, cycling, various board game communities, plenty of National Park areas around here for exploring - get a decent 4wd and go find some good bbq spots.

Understand that there is now a bowling green somewhere in HH.

If as you say, you are going to build - then that.s a full time job anyway - believe me I've done it.

Anyway - I wish you success and a long & happy retirement.

This is indeed a serious question that has plagued expats here for decades. Unfortunately, a great many turn to the beer and beer bars as their main daily activity. Once and awhile it's fun and a good distraction but it's sad to see the same faces on the same bar stools everytime you go to a place. However, they do seem to be having a good time.

My advice, have more kids or at least one. Will keep you more busy than you want to be..LOL. Very Happy

Charity work does fit into my plans, the shelter will be part of it!

I do like fishing Terry, so will also be visiting.

Kids..... Well if the Missus becomes pregnant, we need to talk (snip snip in the past Shocked

) But we have talked adoption.

House building will definately fill the beginning, and discovering all the areas wonders.

Now I wish it was today, instead of heading to the office in a hour Crying or Very sad

I have perfected the art of doing bugger all (well nearly) People say to me don't you get bored doing nothing, well the answer is no not really! Sometimes all I have to do all day is pay a bill at the local 7/11 and more often than not I don't seem to find the time....ha ha ha ha ha ha.
Truth is most people work hard during their life they feel guilty doing nothing! let me tell you its very rewarding doing nothing all day and is a skill to be learned like anything else.

I have the same fears.
I intend to retire in 3 years to praknampran.
It would be so easy to drink all day. I have seen a lot of guys like that inPhuket.
But as my friend rightly says.
Better to be bored in paradise.
