Coco 51 just reminded me to post this, the annual Red Cross Fair is currently being setup on Nebkehardt Road. It usually goes on for about a week so don't try to drive down there.
The event is definitely worth a look, plenty of market stalls and attractions.

The chaos started last night! We live in the soi that runs parallel to soi 51 and our house backs on to the plot of land being used for the live music. As previously, the noise is deafening and the vibration from the bass speakers causes our windows to rattle. Last night, the vibration actually caused a window pane to break. I went and asked them to reduce the volume. Waste of time. I received a lot of smiles and OK's and was told that I should check in to a hotel away from the concert venue. Police? We cannot do anything was their answer.
I have lived here a long time and am able to accept most things but this blatant abuse of power by the local authorities is something I will fight.

Fully agree Huahinian, why dont they use the free space they have at 19 rai or on the klong road 40 rai.
music pollution and any other sort of disturbance is ok as long as its by the municipality.
 like paying 10 baht for rubbish collection, when the bin wagons never come into the soi's. might be like the locals and throw the rubbish over the wall.  |

We feel sorry for you as we got caught up in it in 2001 I think it was.
They parked a ride right outside our gates by the Isara and we could not move the cars for a week.
Had to take our niece on the rides every night, after a few beers the rides made me feel sick. Agree that there must be a better venue for this fair.
Does any money actualy go to the Red Cross I wonder??

I do sympathise with Huahinian - breaking glass as a result of the sound vibration is pretty extreme. But this is an annual event. It's a great market, and the locals clearly love it. Hopefully it also raises some cash for the Red Cross.
We know it is going to happen every year, and Naebkerhardt is as good a place as any for it. Personally I loved the week long event when I lived down there, and had a walk around every night.
Yes, it's noisy. Yes, it blocks access. But it's Thailand for heavens sake, and easy enough for those who really can't hack it to slope off somewhere else for a week surely?

Thank you for your sympathy! This fair now takes place every April and November - that's twice a year! The Thai residents raised a petition that was signed by over 700 people who wanted the fair moved 2 kms to the 19 rai site that is used for the bikers rally. Petition to the Hua Hin Governor ignored! Phone calls to the Amphur - too far away!
When asked why the bikers had to use the 19 rai site, the answer was that they were too noisy for a residential area.
Why should you think I should be driven out of my house? I won't be!
Apart from my personal inconvenience, I am also concerned, in the present economic climate, that hotels, guest houses and restaurants are all losing money due to fair.
Like many others, I wonder how much the Red Cross benefits.

Hi Huahinian - I didn't realise it was now twice a year. So did it take place last November on Naebkerhardt? If so I must have blinked!
As for the effect on businesses down there though - to be fair many of those hotels/restaurants have sprung up since the Red Cross fair started. Maybe they also thought they could influence a move? If Thai residents can't, or won't, tackle the issue there's very little chance for expats.
And to be quite honest if my local town fair here in the UK was stopped, or toned down, due to complaints from the immigrant community I don't think I'd be a very happy bunny at all! Likewise our annual bike night, which closes off the whole of the town centre. Not just one road.
Just a thought....
