|

Does any remember / know the name of the picture of an oriental looking lady that graced the wall of may UK homes in the 60's and 70's. As I remember the woman was Asian, almost olive green, leaning against something in the side of the pictures, bamboo I think. (It was not the Chinese woman pictured in the blue lady).
Thanks _________________ Cole |

You are probably referring to "The Chinese Girl", otherwise known as the "Green Lady".
It was painted by Vladimir Tretchikoff, otherwise known as the "King of Kitsch", and in its time was the biggest selling print in the world.
Ther painting was to be found in most homes that thought the 'lava lamp' was the height of hip and that the 'Pink Floyd' were something to do with ice-cream. |

Thanks for the response. It was not the green/blue lady that I had in mind but the picture "Tina" by JH Lynch. Your information helped me to locate that answer, so thanks for the help. Now if I can just find a copy......... _________________ Cole |

That is the picture, thanks.
It would seem that there are plenty of copies available on E bay. At the time I first saw the print I had no idea that I would ever get on a plane, let alone live in SE Asia.
Thanks for the help. _________________ Cole |

| Looking at that picture, I would say the model is middle eastern, Greek or perhaps Turkish or Italian? Pete |

I got access to the link. I'd agree with Pete, though. More Mediterranean or Middle Eastern than Asian to my mind... I was thinking of the blue lady, I think. _________________ "The question is not, can they reason? Nor, can they talk? But, can they suffer?" - Jeremy Bentham, philosopher, 1748-1832

I went through a different portal to find Tina, so I wound up in the right place.
The picture, as suggested, looks more southern Europen than Asian. Howver at the time I saw it, and from memory, it looked exotic and posibly oriental. It is highly stylised and was always kitsch, but as a teenager it looked "interesting, exotic and mildly erotic". Anyway thanks to everyone's help it will be reborn looking remarkably like my delightful spouse. _________________ Cole |

| I remember the Vladimir Trectchikoff painting mentioned above as when I was in the Navy, many guys who visited the East had hand painted copies of it; this was still going on in the eighties. |

A great thread which has invoked memories of my orange decorated house of the seventies, woodchip wallpaper and a printed picture of a Gypsy Dancer in a red dress which was in thousands of similar working class homes. So much so I've even tried looking for her on the net but so far I've not found her. This could become addictive! |
