When I was in Pattaya/ Jontiem, last year, there were quite a few
atv's on the road. Are they street legal ? I asked on another fourm
and got mixed answers. Some said no but police turn a blind eye,
but would they turn a blind eye for a farang ?

Thanks

Good question - thinking of buying 2 for me & her indoors for fun on the beach, but road legitimacy knowledge would be helpful. Saw an atv on the road in cha am but didn't follow it to see if it was stopped by the polis.

I've seen several over this side as well. All had Thai license plates on them. Don't know if this makes them street legal or if a plate is also needed only if used off road? They're no different than a motorbike when it comes to operation and safety apparatus. Pete Cheers

Dr Dave posted a thread a couple of months ago (but I can't find it to post the link - maybe someone else can remember) about a lot of vehicles that were neither cars nor motorbikes that were impounded by the police. I think the problem was that they didn't fit in with licence classifications.

No, they didn't turn a blind eye & AFAIK, all the ones impounded were owned & driven by farang. I'd go to yhe police or the Transport dept yourself & find out for sure, if I were you. Smile

Amazingly these things are street legal in some European countries; they certainly are here in Luxembourg and also in Germany and I think you can use them on the street in the UK but only if they are registered for agricultural use. I thought about buying one for use on the fields in Issan, but for the same price you can buy a small four wheel drive tractor, wouldn't be as much fun though.
