Protection against copyright infringement

Following various recent legal actions on copyright infringement I was having a look at the terms and conditions for the forum and could not see any anything specifically covering this area (although with my advancing years I could easily have missed it).

It has become common practice on many forums to quote from other publications, this can very easily cause problems with regard to copyright infringement.

I have noticed on some forums that it has become common practice to add a suitable reference, including URL if appropriate, to the source of any quote and for the quote itself to be put in a quote box.

Some reference in the “Terms of Usage and Conditions of Service” that members should not infringe copyright might also be advisable.

I don’t know if doing the above actually provides any degree of protection (any lawyers on the forum who can advise?), but IMHO appropriate acknowledgments to other sources would be less likely to inflame an injured party and would certainly help to keep any legal action at bay

Most of the news and articles posted on here do quote and link to the source. Most media operations usually only object when another copies their content and blatantly claims it to be their own giving no credit whatsoever to the original publisher.

HHAD is covered by this statement:
