Hi and welcome to the board,
Price is very dependant on location in Hua Hin, the further out of town you get, the cheaper the price. You usually need to pay 'key money' then a monthly rent on the premises. You can never really own the place, just a long term lease, bars generally go from between 300K and 2Million baht dependant on size, location, rooms etc. Hua Hin is always expanding so business here will always grow.

| The best thing to do is come here, get a feel for the place, talk to the expats and see whats available. |

That would be enough to get a place on the edge of town or a very small bar in the Soi area. You need to check the details: rent, lease time, turnover, furnishings etc. You can never really own anything in Thailand, its just like a very long lease (unless you want to put it all into a Thai womans name but we all know thats not the brightest thing to do ! )
Have a beer in one of the expats bars and speak to those guys: Jungle Juice, Billys bar, The Ship, London Lounge etc etc |

| Thanks for your infos Lev.Can you give me an example for renting a bar?I would be interested in the monthly rent and how much is the income from the bar.Do you have to pay out of your own pocket every month or can you make some Baht? What would you recommend for a rookie in this business?Do you need a permission from the police or do you have to pay a bribe? |

I dont own a bar so cant really give you accurate answers, as I said before you're probably better off chatting to some of the expat bar owners.
Rent and Income are variable depending on size, popularity and location of the bar. You will notice seasonal differences though (peak season is November to March in Hua Hin). You wont get rich but you should be able to make enough to live off here. Bribes to the police are not uncommon. |

One place that is for sale is Gong's Guesthouse and Bar near the German Bakery at the intersection of Amnuysin and Sra Song roads. I think he's asking for about 500.000 baht for it. It has a small bar downstairs and 4-5 rooms upstairs. _________________ 知彼知己, 胜乃不殆; 知天知地, 胜乃可全

Best thing to do is to get a lawyer and form a company. You can't own more than 49 % of the co. but in reality you can be the only one who can do any decisions concerning it. You may have to pay a few thousend extra baht for using the lawyer but it's worth it. _________________ 知彼知己, 胜乃不殆; 知天知地, 胜乃可全

| Hi good luck on renting a bar. My advice would be to try something else there must be thirty plus more bars than a couple of years ago and to be honest there is an over supply. If you buy a small bar remember that ten plus custermers and you will be full so it's quiet easy to see that your income will have a limit. Look around for something that nobody else is doing. |

Good advice!
As an interesting alternative, could be a window of opportunity for someone to start a "smart" hire-car operation in the vicinity of the Hilton/Sofitel with a few clean cars and mopeds, utilising a simple hire-contract with proper collision insurance etc. Perhaps not as sociable an occupation as running a bar, but less anti-social hours. Employ a couple of cheeky local girls on commission for "front of house" and off you go........
No doubt someone older and wiser than I will say "it's not that easy" .....
What do I know ?
