Press Release
The ‘Jazz Train’ pulls out of Hua Hin on December 12. In 1941, Billy Strayhorn wrote “Take the A Train” for the Duke Ellington band. On Wednesday December 12, music fans will “Take the Jazz Train” for a wonderful concert excursion along the Gulf of Thailand.
The fun starts at 11:00am with a live show at Hua Hin’s historic railway station. When the train pulls in, lucky ticket holders (and the band!), will board their own private rail car for the 3 hour trip to Sala Thai Resort. The rail line follows close to the shore at this point, for wonderful views and live music all the way.
On arrival guests will enjoy lunch, a variety of beach activities, and strolling the vicinity of Ban Krut, one of Thailand’s most charming ‘undiscovered’ resort areas. At sunset, there will be a deluxe buffet dinner and live concert with two separate bands. After that, musicians will join forces for a free-form ‘open jam’. Guests who sing or play an instrument are encouraged to join in.
In the morning, guests can take it easy with a leisurely buffet brunch and optional excursion to Wat Maha Chedi, a beautiful and distinctive hilltop temple overlooking the sea. Optionally, guests can book Sala Thai’s own fishing boat for cruising and fishing. After lunchtime, VIP buses will whisk us all back to Hua Hin in comfort and style.
Tickets for the Jazz Train excursion will go on sale to the public on Monday November 19, at just 2,500 baht per person, including transportation, double-occupancy lodging, all food, and entertainment. With just 62 seats available, tickets are sure to go fast.
To pre-book your seat on this historic first trip of the ‘Jazz Train’, phone 089-181 6328 (English), or 081-880 4211 (English or Thai), or 081-772 0986 (English, German, and Swedish). _________________ Your powers are weak old man. |

Can you tell me please if this is something that runs every year. It really
sounds like a great trip. I won't be living in Hua Hin until the end of January but would love to go on this trip next year.
Many Thanks.. |

Press Release
Tickets for the Hua Hin Jazz Train on December 12 have sold out completely. Another trip has been scheduled for December 26, and further trips are being planned for January and succeeding months. Dates to be announced.
“To say the least, people have responded to the idea of the Jazz Train with enthusiasm” said Rewat Siriwong na Ayutthaya (Mr. Ray), founder and organizer of the Jazz Train. “Every single ticket was sold within a week of the announcement, and we have had to scramble to add trips to accommodate the demand.”
The Jazz Train is an overnight rail excursion focusing on live music, leaving Hua Hin’s central railway station and traveling to Baan Krut, a beautiful and unspoilt beach resort at the Southern end of Prachuab Kirikhan province. Live entertainment and refreshments are provided during the scenic 3-hour journey. On arrival at Baan Krut, guests are accommodated in bungalows at Sala Thai beach resort. In the evening there is a special dinner with a live concert and open jam on the beach. The following morning, guests can relax at the resort, or take a sightseeing trip to Wat Maha Chedi, one of Thailand’s most beautiful temples, returning to Hua Hin in the early afternoon by air-conditioned coach.
Tickets on the Jazz Train are priced at 2,500 baht per person, including all transportation, lodging, food, and entertainment. Tickets may be purchased by phone at 089 181 6328 (English), 081 880 4211 (English or Thai), or 081 772 0986 (English, German, and Swedish), by sending email to huahinjazztrain@yahoo.com, or by visiting the Jazz Train web site at www.huahinjazztrain.com.
Tickets are also available during live jazz jams held every Monday evening at Ray’s Place Restaurant at the corner of Sra Song and Amnuaysin Roads, one block South of the downtown night market. To find Ray’s Place, walk through the night market from Petchkasem Road until you reach the ‘break’ where Sra Song Road crosses. Turn left here (right if you are coming the other direction from the railroad tracks) and go one block. Ray’s Place Restaurant is on the far left (South and East) corner of this intersection, behind the green block ‘soldiers box’ directly on that corner. Phone is 08 188 042 11. _________________ Your powers are weak old man. |

Mr. Parahandy and I would love to join one of the trips, but, unfortunately, they seem to be mid-week. We work every day at the university and getting the odd day or two off for a jolly is a big no-no.
I do hope they keep running in March (when we have a bit more mid-week free time).
It seems like great value for money, and would love to hear reports from anyone who has experienced the first trip. Feedback please...

Thanks, everyboy. The Jazz Train seems to be really popular, and I'm pretty sure we can add weekend trips down the line. We're feeling it out as we go.
Meanwhile, the first Jazz Train heads out this Wednesday (Dec. 12) just before noon. There will be a live band at the station, some banners, and whatever other whoop-de-doo we can organize, starting around 11:00. Anyone who feels like it, drop by and join in. It should be a spot of fun. |

Heres another press release from the Observer:
Jazz Train Announce Last Trip of the Season Finishing a remarkable first season, the Hua Hin Jazz Train announces its final trip of the 2007-2008 high season. The season finale will leave Hua Hin the morning of Saturday 15 March, returning from Baan Krut the following day.
“It’s been an amazing experience starting up the Jazz Train,” says founder Rewat Siriwong na Ayutthaya (Mr. Ray). “We’ve learned a lot about organizing and producing a venture such as this. But more than that, we made so many new friends and we found out just how many folks love good music and are seeking experiences such as ours.” “There are a lot of ordinary sight-seeing tours out there. We offer something truly different, and people have responded to that.” The Jazz Train excursion package is notable for its musical theme, for the sheer amount of live entertainment, and for the innovative ways it is presented. “We start the music at the station, continuing on the train all the way to our destination at Baan Krut.
After a break to rest and relax, we have cocktails and dinner on the beach along with light, tranquil jazz and other styles. Then we really kick out the jams in our evening concert, featuring at least two, sometimes three, complete bands.” “We continue the following day with breakfast, local sightseeing, and more live music. Finally, we bring everyone back by air-conditioned coach, arriving at Hua Hin in the afternoon. Altogether, it’s several hours of quality live music. You just can’t get that with any other excursion package.“Naturally, we plan to build on our success of this season. Our idea is a simple one. We take people places they’ve never been, in ways they’ve never traveled, and surround them with quality live entertainment and warm hospitality all the way there and back. With that in mind, we’ll be coming up with some genuinely exciting options for the 2008-2009 season. Watch this space!”
