|
|
I thought it was worth mentioning for people that don't know, that, there is a bus service from town to Khao Takiab police box and vv for 10 bt. You can get it across from the Siam commercial bank on the night market. Just ring the bell to get off anywhere along the way. The buses are converted (usually green) pick-ups. They run until about 6 ish.
From Takiab you just sit in the little bus station (again near the police box) and wait for the call that the bus is going, or get on a bus that already has people on board. If somebody asks if you want a taxi, just say 'bus' and they will point you in the right direction. Again this service finishes around 6-7. These buses can be flagged down anywhere along the route.
When the bus gets into town from Takiab it carries on to HH airport and back again, this would cost you another 10bt each way.
It took us a few days of getting ripped off by the very same bus drivers before working this out, so thought this info might be useful.
Language and cultures might be different, but the taxi driver mentality is just the same world over-ah bless. |

'Songthaew'
Just how the bloody hell should that be pronounced? It's one of the words I have difficulty pronouncing but I usually go with:
'Song-dtay-oo'
Any other offers? _________________ "The man who never made a mistake never did bugger all" - Old Welsh proverb

soong (meaning two) the o sound is long and pronounced as in English word "song" but longer.
thaew (meaning line, row) the diftong (two vowels) is pronounced as the vowel a in "can" followed by u as the u in 'sure' _________________ 知彼知己, 胜乃不殆; 知天知地, 胜乃可全

Agree, with the added bonus that you can travel prostrate when necesssary.
As for the Thaew bit try saying the word Towel in a mid English accent and then drop the l and you will get close. _________________

thao or thau is foot
thaew is line, row
the difference again is in the vowels. In thau they sound like the 'a' in the word 'master' and 'u' like in the word 'come' pronounced Yorkshire style. _________________ 知彼知己, 胜乃不殆; 知天知地, 胜乃可全
