Statistics, statistics and damn lies.
Having worked in publishing/advertising for 19 years I'm well aware that figures can mean anything. Market research companies SUCK. I've had so many run ins with them in the past because the sample size/ demographics weren't right.
If 300 Norwegians want to vote Thailand the best travel destination in the world, it dosn't affect my decision to have lived here for eight years already.
Norseman, don't take offence. Those figures could just as easily have come from the UK.
They mean nothing. thumbs up

Lomu,

You sum it up very well.

I love Thailand and will be back in February. Very Happy

Not running the country down at all, just very wary when things like this are published - especially when business interests are concerned!

Cheers

Peter

Yes - you are quite right lomu.
I totally agree with your point of view!!
If somebody else judge Thailand up and away, or down in the drain - I couldn't care less!!
I live here, and enjoy my life here.
Just the right spot on earth for me.
I simply love Thailand, and that is good enough for me.

Cheers and see you all tomorrow.

Many good comments here but I have agree with Lomu on the sales/marketing/advertising bit.

Somehow, Ford is the most popular make of vehicle in the world, Dell make the most popular PCs and the Sun is the most popluar newspaper in Britain. All these based on sales figures of course.

I don't think that those factors have anything to do with quality.

I have lived and travelled to many different countries in the world and with my current budget and requirements this is not only the best country in the world but the only country in the world.

Luckily we all have had the choice that some people of the world do not.

I could quite hapily live in Provence, the San Francisco area, Italy or even parts of Spain but I am sure that I would end up back in Thailand soon.

Sorry I hope not to offend anybody by leaving Merthyr Tydfil and Stockwell off the list.

Not sure about Stockwell Guess but in all honesty, even MT is probably cleaner than most towns in Thailand! No beach, cold rain and very little sun though....

In 2005 it made the headlines for being top of two lists: the first a list of places in the UK with the best potential for growth in property value and the second was the list for the sickest towns in Britain!

Its low prices and proximity to Cardiff helped it to the top of the first list and the high dependency on welfare and invalidity benefits made it top of the second! It also has one of the lowest immigrancy rates in the UK, so we can't blame the asylum seekers!

So, if you want to buy a cheap place and don't mind being surrounded by limping benefit dependents, then come to sunny South Wales! thumbs up However, if you want sun, sea, sand, beer and the other and don't mind sticky plastic bags blowing on to your face on the beach then head for sunny Hua Hin! Cheers

Just to be clear Norseman - I don't live in Merthyr Tydfil either but I am considering becoming a slum landlord there!

Don't do it Jaime. Consider to buy some land here instead.
I'll buy you a drink or two next time you come.
Was it 6 or 7 weeks?

When Tesco's opens and they no longer need their countown board I will get it from them cheap and hang it across Soi Selakarm with the word's changed to

"NN Days to Jaime's return" so can you be specific.

We have the house in HH already - I was merely thinking of taking my property empire into more up-market territory! Wink

As for the return date I thought it was 5 weeks but my brother told me today that it is actually 7 weeks today Crying or Very sad Never mind, I will look forward to the beers! Cheers

I seem to be responsible for a wander off topic again - apologies to all but my mind seems to work ever more tangentially the older that I get!
