the truth is that the police(especially in hua hin) is more worse than the mafia and i do not mean matters like getting stopped in traffic because of wearing no helmet! in case of need you must pay them extra to do their job! bar owners must pay every month for nothing and from time to time police comes and ask for free whisk(e)y!
When there is a holiday all bars have to be closed except the one in binthabat which belongs to corrupt policeman!
many girls who tell you that they are singles have policeman as boyfriend (or protector) who takes care also in collecting the money! (i know this cause i have girls in my neighbourhood who i know from binthabat and see her boyfriends daily)!
Police pays very low salaries to its stuff(between 5 and 10 t bht),nevertheless most of them are living in big and nice houses! is this possible because they also controll the drug selling? so dont get wrong opinion because some police is "friendly"! they are criminals in uniform!

there are some quite serious accusations & statements there aim666 Shocked
would i assume correctly, that you are a thai national & a local resident??

My long experience (62 years) is that corruption if rife everywhere from the city of London to the US to Africa to Thailand. Not just police but also military, politicians, high powered businessmen, mafia (whether Italian, chinese or Thai)

It's not something we can solve but learn to live with it (or join it!!!)

As a guest in this country for nigh on 6 years and based on my various other locations where I've lived (not just visited) throughout the world it has to be a question of tolerance, keeping your nose clean, politeness, accepting that in the event of conflict, YOU WONT WIN

As for bar girls---- Yes lots of girls have police boyfriends, yes lots of policemen have cars and big houses, but remember the Thai family structure. Most Thai houses are occupied by family and all contribute to the 'family pot'

As for bars staying open-- sure, they either have police, politician, military connections. Bars in certain areas are open all night regardless of holidays or official closing times

End of lecture
Cheers Cheers Cheers

ok, Rolling Eyes so what do you base your facts on? ie, ALL police are criminals in uniform & they are worse than the mafia?

i just think maybe your comments are a little bit over the top.
maybe you have had some bad experiences? generally i go along with the points richard has made. Cheers

Just got my Thai drivers license a couple of months ago. I heard it helps.

makes you look more like a resident than just a tourist.

I can tell you this, when going to National parks and such they've been charging me Thai admission to get in instead of the Farlang price.

just went into one and instead of paying 400 baht I only had to pay 50.

Strange

Last two visits to national parks (Pa La U + Sam Roi Yot) both within the last three months have only cost THB40 using the drivers licence.

Have prices gone up? Shocked
