Just had 2 men call very smart with id card but could have been bus pass, I cannot read Thai. My partner was out she thinks they may be fake. I am not sure. They were collecting for police charity in south Thailand. What puzzled me they drove straight to my house.
Anybody had this happen to them.

My friend who does speak Thai told me that he had a visit from these people last year. He said he spoke to them for a while and they seemed genuine so he gave them a small amount of money. Much to his surprise they came back the next day and gave him a small Buddha ornament, so if it’s a scam it’s a strange one!

We've had what sounds like the same people come to our house, too. They come by every few months, have photos of people in disasters needing aid. We've given them 100B a couple of times, sometimes we decline. Don't really know what's up, but they drive an official-looking truck and always give "receipts" (but no Buddha). If anybody KNOWS what these men are representing, I'd appreciate knowing.

Many of the orphanages and charity foundations get their funding this way. They will issue a bill which is supposedly tax-deductible. The people who do should have some form of identification and an official certificate stating that they have permission to solicit funds in this manner.

There is one guy who comes around once a year; he was collecting for such a foundation. I usually give a couple of hundred, but this time he said I'd get more merit if I contributed for the cost of a complete coffin. (Yes, they give coffins to the people who can't afford them, among other things). Feeling generous, I did, joking at the same time that maybe I should win a lottery prize. Funny thing was, a month or two later I did get quite a generous amount...

Not that you should contribute to every one who comes knocking on your door...

Yup, these guys did the rounds here a week or two ago. My little Font of Wisdom dealt with them, very politely. Had some Jehovah's Witnesses round once, would you believe. I managed to deal with them myself...
