Hi Guy's, I have wanted to visit HH for some time now & have finally got things sorted. I am hoping to fly out mid september & stay for a month or two too see how things are. Can anyone give me any advice on my best way of travel & some reasonable places to stay while I am there? Also any info on weather around that time & the situation on what visa I will need if any would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Alan, welcome to the board.
There are a few questions there so I'd recommend you have a read through www.tourismhuahin.com for travel and accommodation advice, you could do worse than some of the places listed on HHAD also.

You'll get 30 days on arrival but you'll need a tourist visa if you want to stay longer, plenty of info in the visa section.

Hi, Thanks for the advice. will take a look at the link you have sent. Yes I do like the look of some of the guest houses on HHAD. Jing's looks very nice, may try it.

You need to give a bit more information on some of your questions, but here goes:

Get your own flight. There is plenty of choice on the net. I usually use Airline Network in the first instance, and then try to better the price. However, you haven't told us where you want to fly from, whether you want direct/non-direct, budget etc

One month or two? Visa requirements vary a lot.

Where to stay? Again what is your budget? Do you want Guest house, hotel or rent?

You will only get a specific answer if you post a specific question. I am afraid that I can't be very specific based on your question. The guys here are wealth of information if you tell them exactly what you need to know.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I will be flying out of Manchester north west UK. Will be looking at 2 months stay & may extend if I can without too much trouble. As for the accommodation a guest house would be my 1st choice I think as I will not have a very large budget looking for somewhere that is clean & comfortable though! Have had a look on HHAD guest houses & Jing's salon spa look quite nice thinking of giving them ago, unless you can recommend something. I am always open to advice. I have used airline network myself in the past & been fine with them. I have not seen to many reasonable flights direct to HH so may consider flying to Bangkok then travelling to HH from there. Again was wondering the best & safest way to do that. Looking on the HHAD website I have seen taxi service & also bus which seem very cheap, so was wondering whether that could be an option. Also wondering what it is like getting a taxi from Bangkok & what type of price I can expect to pay. look forward to hearing back from you if you can help with anymore advice.

As far as flights go, I’ve used Etihad via Abu Dhabi the last couple of times and they’re pretty good for the price. I fly from Paris but you can get the same deal out of Manchester or London and it’s always less than 500 pounds.

I have recently arrived and travelled down by Taxi (by far the most convenient way). I paid 2,600 Baht, but that was because I opted for the executive car. You can do it a lot cheaper, but what do you want after a 12hrs+ flight in cattle class? I booked mine online - if you want more details, I can PM you.

I don't really think I could handle the hassle of the bus or other forms of transport, but each to his own.

I've never tried the guesthouse scene in Hua Hin, but a friend of mine swears by Jings. He says the rooms are a bit small, but apart from that, they provide excellent value for money.

Hi, thanks for the info. The taxi price does not seem bad. Suppose once I've done it once i'll be fine with it. I looked at jing's on HHAD & it does look quite good! noticed there are a few different sized rooms as well, but being 5'4" in my bare feet think room size won't be too much of a problem, only somewhere to flake out as long as it's tidy. thanks again for the advice. Did you order your taxi from HHAD website or did you get one from Bangkok taxi company?

If you're intending staying for 2 months, a single entry Tourist Visa will do the trick. That will give you 60 days on arrival. You can extend it for a further 30 days at any Imm office in Thailand for 1,900 Baht.
Note: some offices are asking to see a return ticket at extension stage, or proof of onward journey out of Thailand within those 30 days. If you can't show that, you might only get 7 extra days. I'm not sure how HH are playing this at the moment.
You can apply for the visa by post through the consulate in Hull. If you use The Embassy in London, you must apply in person and it takes 48 hours to turn around. Probably not convenient for you bearing in mind where you live.

I was recommended a Hua Hin taxi company by another member of this board. It was a little cheaper than the HHAD offering, and is obviously in direct competition. As such I can only advise the details by PM. The service offered by HHAD is equally as good - just a little more expensive.

Hi Calmdown. Lomuamarts advice on visas is sound, and easy to sort out. You shouldn't have trouble getting a selection of flight options from Manchester either, but personally I would prefer to pay a bit more these days for a faster route. Some airlines operate direct flights.
You can get a taxi easily at the airport, but as some have said already, maybe save a little by booking one from HH in advance.
Getting straight to HH from the airport is a good idea if you are completely new to Thailand. Once you find your way around it can be good to crash out in Bangkok for a night or two first. But thats my opinion - many will disagree! Rolling Eyes
