It is about time I updated my lense prescription, and I was hoping that there is an optomitrist in Hua Hin who is professional, and has a reasonable standard of English. Or, would my best bet be to go to BKK for this service.
Cheers,

I'm as blind as a bat and over the years here have had to get numerous new pairs of glasses.
As you'll know, there's loads of opticians in town. One that I've always found decent is Time and Optic, next to the shopping mall.
I did wear contact lenses back home for years, so understand the importance of getting them properly fitted etc. I bought a pair of disposables a few months ago - bearing in mind I'm -6.75 in both eyes, I was surprised that they had the prescription in stock. These work OK for long distance, but are useless for reading. No check was made of the curviture of my eyes etc. I don't use them.
Unless someone has any better advice, I'd go to BKK for something like lenses. |

I've been buying glasses and contact lenses in Thailand for over 10 years and I don't really see much difference between the shops in Hua Hin and Bangkok. The spoken english will be better in Bangkok though.
I recently had my prescription checked in the Top Charoen opticians located on Petchkasem Road near to the first set of traffic lights as you enter Hua Hin from the north. Found them efficient and proffessional - prescription checked, lenses cut and fitted all witihn a couple of hours. They use that machine to check your prescription - and then fine tune it with the old eye test.
I stopped using Time Optic because the last 2 pairs of glasses I bought there broke fairly easily - teach me to buy cheap frames.
You would probably get a better selection of frames in Bangers though. |
