Shocked O.K. then, this is it, only 4days to pack my (our) stuff! .Bit of a last minute thing. Staying in the Anatara Spa Resort, any comments on it,? How's the weather at the mo?(Raincoats & wellies or suntan cream & cozzies?) this is our first time to Thailand and really don't know what to expect!!
Can anyone help with the elecy supply? 110v or 240v? 3pin or 2 pin sockets? flat orpound pins?
Please help!!!! Shocked

Welcome to HHAD!
Anantara is one of the nicest resorts in HH, its about 4km north so you'll need local transport to get in and out which isnt a problem.

Today was beaut, clear blue skies and perfect wet season weather!

Leccy is 220v, your UK plugs wont work unless you get an adaptor which you can buy locally for about a quid.

Enjoy!
Cheers

The full time ex-pats can advise you on the weather at the moment. As for the electrics I believe its 220v. Some places have 3 pin (not UK style though) but most have 2. Officially I think its flat pin but if your plug is bendy enough the round pins will fit! I use one of those multi adapter travel plugs you can buy at the airport and they are fine - I usually use the round pins as they stay in more securely.

First time in Thailand? You will either be bowled over and absolutely love it or you'll leave thinking you never want to go back!

I hope it's the former (it usually is)!

Cheers

Closest place is Koh Talu, I find the diving better at Chumphon though, more info here:

As far as The Anantara is concerened, I stayed there in 1989 for three weeks on my first holiday to Thailand. It was The Royal Garden village in those days.
I've been living here for 8 years now, so that sums the place up nicely for me.
Beware, else you won't be going home thumbs up
PS, I havn't been living at the resort for the past 8 years - if only!!

Ok then, thanx for the links. I'll have a look. Are there any dive shops in Hua Hin that visit these dive sites or will I have to make the journey first and take pot luck there will be a dive when I get there? Cheers

Trust me when you get to Hua Hin you'll fall in love with the place, it's quite possibly the strangest place in the world and yet it's still so much fun. Dont forget when haggling, 20% off is what you'll usually get, and do it with a smile on your face Smile

Oh and dont use taxis, hire a bike, it's cheap enough and driving in Thailand is nuts but bags of fun.

Super Tonic,

If you think Hua Hin is "quite possibly the strangest place in the world", you have some more travelling to do! Despite first impressions & what you may read on here, HH is quite tame! Cheers thumbs up

Hehe well maybe I should say Thailand in general is the strangest place I've ever been (but in a nice way). I say that because not a day went by without something surprising me by being substantially new or different to British life, and that's what makes it so much better than going to Europe or America, which for me don't offer anything new or exciting. I'll definitely be doing some more travelling when I get there in May though, as flights to neighbouring countries are so cheap.

Not the first. The first time I came here was 1969, and to a small village in central Thailand named Takhli, which fyi was originally built by the Japanese in WWII along with the military base there. A two lane blacktop road town with nothing but dirt and wooden buildings on each side of it. For three weeks I was petrified to go off base. But oh boy, once I did, I never wanted to come back.

The most amazing for me was that every sense was working overtime, sight, smell, hearing would get immediately overloaded with things I had never experienced before, anywhere. It was quite amazing to be sure and a memory that never fades.

Hope your memories are just as good ST. Cheers Pete

That's what I love about the visa run to Ranong. Sure it's a boring necessity, but if you bother to open your eyes & look out of the window, you'll be a voyeur (in a good sense!) on so much of Thai life. Even now, I can see things in Thailand in a totally new way, even here in HH. As you say, Supertonic, it's substantially different to British life. Amazing Thailand! Wink
