Hello, Been here ten months. Live near Khao Ka Lok and I have just rented a car to enable me to take control of my life and start living again. Live with elderly mum (who has dementia, lupus, is hard of hearing, {very}, poor sight, uses a wheelchair and other probs) and I have heard there is an OAP home in Khao Ta Kiep. Anyone else know of it? Have to renew our annual mulitple trip visa's soon and need a place for her to stay while I'm away. She's too frail to travel now. It would probably be better for her to stay in a decent place permanently where she has fun and people her own age. which is close enough for me to visit and take her out regularly. I'm not much company for her at home and get irritated easily. I suppose I shouldn't admit that! I love her dearly but part of her is missing and I know that she can't have much longer, so guilt is always there too. My sister and her husband live opposite and they help out with Mum but it's just not the same as 24/7. Sorry! Didn't intend my introduction to be so miserable. I'm really an optimist and a cheerful lady. Honest.

Hello Lambella,
Welcome aboard - sorry cannot help with the old folk's home in Khao Takiap - though there was a thread not too long ago on this theme (seem to remember Leonard Cheshire Homes being mentioned) perhaps a trawl using the search facility at the top of the page might throw up some help.
Hope you can find a solution that suits all - admitting the need for such is a most positive start. Good Luck.

Thank you. I have checked it out and it seems that the idea of a home is making ground but nothing has come of it yet. A neighbour said they had heard of one in Khao Takiep which is why I asked. They've gone back to Australia now so can't ask for more info.
Mind you, I think mum needs more nursing care now so I will research that. It's all very distressing and very sad.

The problem of looking after aging parents and later ourselves is an issue that affects many of us here. I believe that there is a care home in Chang Mai, too far for reguar visits from Hua Hin area.

However there is some help on the way; there are plans affoot to develop a village around Hua Hin that is geared up to people who are aging. The idea is that it will provide minimum care and maximum independence for younger and fitter residents and then have conversion facilities to cope with the effects of aging right up to stages where people are totally dependent upon there carers. It is planned to also have on site medical facilities, which will be included in the accommodation cost. (as one gets older medical insurance becomes more difficult to obtain).

This is probably two years away from construction, however preliminary design and marketing plans are being put together now. Early purchasing options are planned for around the middle of the year.
