Other than the main hotels, I've never found much else happening - organised wise.
However, the centre of town is usually great fun as a big street party around all the bars. _________________ "I spent a lot of my money on booze, birds and fast cars - the rest I just squandered". George Best. |

The problem with the big hotels is that their gala dinners are extremely expensive. _________________ 知彼知己, 胜乃不殆; 知天知地, 胜乃可全

From what I undersatnd, large hotels factor in a gala dinner for xmas day and new yeears eve into accomodation price, so making sure that you spend the day/evening where you are staying.

They not only factor it in, many all over the country post a sign at the front desk saying "MANDATORY DINNER" 4,500 Baht as an example. You pay regardless if you want to eat it or not.
I wonder what would happen if you gave your coupon to some poor Thai's to attend if you didn't want to? Would be interesting to see if the hotel management would accept them in the spirit of the season and in the spirit of Thai tamboon merit making or, kick them out on their butts? I think I would bet on the latter. Pete _________________ "What America needs is a huge hypodermic needle of morality." Alice Cooper 21 Sept. 2007 |

Last new year me and mrs H2o went and stayed on Koh Payam off the Ranong coast. Very chilled and had a lovely night on the beach with a few other peole letting off chinese balloons. There was a BBQ party atmosphere all along the beach we were at with parties at most of the beach bars, and it made for a nice change from most of the commercial new years we had spent previously. The island it self is lovely and we met some really nice people there Will more than likely be back again this new year. _________________ IF YOU CAN'T DIVE! RIDE! |
