|
|
In an effort by CAT to recoup the cost of increasing Thailands international bandwith, new taxes on using the internet are being immediately introduced.
The tax will be graduated and be dependant on internet speed. Most users will pay around 970 per month. However, foreigners without a work permit or retirees will pay 1,490B per month.
On being questioned about the higher charges for non- WP holders and retirees, Sombat Toxin of the Alien Internet Control Division of CAT, justified the charges on the basis that such foreigners hogged the internet surfing porn, rather using the net for educational purposes as most Thais do. "They therefore should pay more", he said. In addition to the above, there will be a seperate additional fee of 490B a month for using bittorrents and surfing foreign language web sites.
As of midnight tonight, all internet users will be required to attach an internet toggle to their computers to monitor speeds and help levy the tax. These can be picked up free of charge from 7-11s today. Any user not registered by midnight will be allocated 10 mins of internet time and then disconnected.
Satellite operators welcomed the initiative saying that the extra revenue would enable them to improve internet speeds by moving satellites closer to earth.
Thailands telephone companies also praised the move as they will now be able to afford a new fleet of vans that are able to react quickly to customer complaints.
CAT reminded foreigners that when picking their toggles up at a 7-11, they would have to register for the tax and bring along their passport with Non O visa, 10 passport photos and a copy of their house registration or lease agreement.
All unregistered accounts will be closed at midnight tonight.

Nice one lomuamart, did you read the whole of the original article. The artical was funny enough, but some of the respondents comments who were taken in by this made much better reading

I pity the poor 7-11 sales staff trying to figure out why all these mad farang want an internet toggle that they don't stock, for free! _________________ "The question is not, can they reason? Nor, can they talk? But, can they suffer?" - Jeremy Bentham, philosopher, 1748-1832

Yeah. That was ripped off, but one of the best I've seen in a few years.
Sorry if I had to "cane" it. _________________ "I spent a lot of my money on booze, birds and fast cars - the rest I just squandered". George Best. |
