Well Tiger the taxi driver (Soi5 suk-o-vit) told me the exact date - 28 September, but maybe the road won't be ready then and the skytrain will stagnate there sometime in 2008.
He seemed more clued up than most. _________________ I know nothing |

I think the only way anybody will find out for sure is by getting a flight to Bangkok only to find that you are not in Don Muang.
It may be a fair assumption then that the airport is open. You may find though that you will have to walk a few kilometres to get any further transport.
The chance of the road, railway, skytrain and airfield all being ready at the same time is zero squared.
Then of course Land Registry Office will have to double check to ensure that not one single square wa is owned by a farang. _________________

Will this mean the end of the SGA shuttle into Hua Hin, as I understand it all internal flights will remain at Don Muang whilst international flights will fly in and out of Suvaranabhumi?
If I am going to have to get a taxi to the new airport, I might as well drive straight to Hua Hin. |

| Bangkok's new Suvarnabhumi Airport is now set to open for commercial purposes on September 28, 2006. |

only joking, but time will tell. I've heard that some airlines have already expressed concerns that the computer etc infrastructure won't be ready by then.
Only two days ago, pillars that will support the elevated railway were inspected and some found to be defective. I suppose that it's not too important how people get there and away at the moment, just the fact that the regional "hub of aviation" will have a chance of competing with Singapore and Hong Kong.
Honestly, good look to it and the country. I could easily have a go at the new Wembley etc etc.
September 28th? Check with your airline first. _________________ "I spent a lot of my money on booze, birds and fast cars - the rest I just squandered". George Best. |

Ready or not, additional pressure to implement a successful launch may be applied in light of the proposed election, just over two weeks later.
This would certainly offer TRT one glimmer of good news during their election campaign.
Of course it swings both ways, the opposition will not want the new airport to be seen as a success until after the election and could apply pressure to force a delay in implementation.
Could be interesting reading over the coming months. _________________ Never trust a hippy.... |
