Dear all,
Having lived in Korat in the northeast of Thailand for 6 years, I have decided to move to shake things up a little and regain the exciting feeling I possessed when I first moved here. I spent a few weeks in Hua hin last year and am considering a move there. I am qualified to teach here and have been doing so in Korat. My main question to you that live there is:
How available is teaching work in Hua Hin?
Secondary question:
Having spoke to a friend that lived in Hua Hin some years ago, I was told to look for a house to rent on the west side of the train tracks, is this a good suggestion? Cheers

Teaching - there are plenty of schools around, but plenty of teachers too. But you should be able to get a job easily enough. If you need to keep working, you'd be best sorting it out before you move (obviously...). If you prefer teaching at university level, jobs are harder to come by.

Renting west - too many ifs and buts to give you a yes/no answer, but obviously the closer you are to the town centre, the more expensive the rent is likely to be. There are lots of threads dealing with this. Presumably you have transport, so, as has been said many times, have a good drive round and look everywhere. There's plenty for all tastes and income levels.

Good luck!

not too difficult to rent west of rot fai, go up soi 88 and look around.
salaries pretty much the same as everywhere else in thailand.
hh will be more expensive to ive than korat, i think.
big money is only at real proper int'l schools which are mostly in bkk - over 100K a month can be earned but its master's degree, strong track record and knowing someone already inside.

So not only do you need a masters degree, but you have to be good at the 100 or 200m sprint as well as having a serving prisoner as a friend, before you can teach.... Shocked

randy, these are the real int'l schools not the ones that insert the word int'l into their name somewhere.
i know a couple of people who have taught in them (one made 135K a month) and the students are from rich hi-so bkk families who pay big tuition fees. some of these schools graduate students who go on to oxbridge or ivy league unis.
master's degree is not "needed" as its no guarantee of anything but the schools pay very very well and can choose from the top down in terms of qualifications so a mere bach degree most likely won't get a job. and as you know, in LoS its all about who you know and who knows you. Cheers
