I think the last person to leave because of this felt we were under moderating. As I believe I said at the time, sometimes you can't win. _________________ "The question is not, can they reason? Nor, can they talk? But, can they suffer?" - Jeremy Bentham, philosopher, 1748-1832

Forgive me in my dotage but im sorry I cannot see why one needs a badge when partaking in a thread or posting a personal opinion.
If as (and I agree) WL says it is lightly moderated, it shouldn’t be any hardship to separately sign in on the rare occasion a moderation is required.
If dodge city had as many deputies and badges as big as this forum the gunfight at the OK corral would have ended before it began and we would all be saying Wyatt Earp who the @#$^ is he. (Sorry sense of humor failure again WL ive slapped my own wrist to save you the bovver)
Anyway I can’t see any problem or great hardship in trialing it for 6 months at the end of which one could see (by ONE I mean LEV Admin or Buksi ) if readers, contributors, posts, or thread length had increased. It would also show how lightly or not the forum is actually moderated.
It could be seen as a penis thingy this badge malarky and as my pecker isn’t standing and Viagra is a no go maybe I could borrow a badge for a few weeks to see if it will work for me (OK WL I have given my self a yellow card one more and it’s a red) sense of humor gets me in bovver all the time bummer
Lev I have been reading and flicking through hundreds of pages and posts to catch up on 8 months its just the way it comes across i am trying to help believe it or not i am not having a go but it is that sort of statement i am talking about backed up by a badge now question was that your opinion or a moderation Not having a go just trying to make a point
quote myself
I did say i did NOT in reality think that it is over moderated what i did say was it gives the appearance and feeling that it is
quote WL
To be fair to sarge, I think he was just musing on how some people react and not saying that HHAD is over moderated.
The people that get that appearance/feeling dont come on the forum to tell us thats my point _________________ A Greatfull Guest of Thailand |

Nowt to do with me mate, though I really cant see the point of multiple logins, its just to much extra hassle for us overworked mods! Though since we are human and often like to post our own opinions I am in favour of a "mod mode" icon to separate regular posts from mod action posts. _________________ Named must your fear be before banish it you can. |

Since this has already been discussed and accepted as a good initiative the moderators will now be using the following icon when undertaking moderator action:
All other posts from moderators will be their own and should be treated as such. The usual applies, we do not expect moderator action to be questioned publicly though we do welcome it by PM should you feel a mis-moderation has taken place.
Thanks.

lev that sounds better than we have now i was typing up the following post so i wont waste it explains my motivei but ill go with what you have put up
Thanks for that Buksi with Lev and you considering my suggestion I at least feel it is worth giving further explanation.
The previous post by super joe was an unenlightened presumption and totally wrong so I hope he will accept my unenlightened presumption he is just touting for a mod badge.
Let me explain when I logged in about 5 days ago now the first thing I did was go to beach bar and click I then using the wheel thingy on my mouse scrolled down to a topic which I remembered was about the 15th mar 07 when I had me doins.
Then I clicked on last post and then using the wheel thingy again I scrolled down if I saw no yellow chicken I would click previous and scroll down and would keep doing this until I saw a chicken or a date previous to 15th mar 07 then I would read all posts to date.
I would go to the next topic and repeat the process this is exactly what I did when I first joined the forum by the way
As I scrolled down certain topics (not all) the green chilies and white moderator flashed like a strobe light at a disco.
Now I know that 99% of those posts giving me seizures are just mods joining in the forum and giving their opinion quite correctly, at a guess I would think that rarely more than 3 MODERATION posts per month are actually required or posted. As I have agreed this forum is in actual fact very lightly moderated.
However to a first time reader coming in from the forums we all know are grossly over moderated,
1. might not get the impression that HHAD is lightly moderated
2. Might get the feeling it is over moderated
Both of which could be costing us readers and posters which I think all would agree is a shame.
Yesterday I reached a topic in suggestions titled (when do I get my lips) and it reminded me that when we had lips the mods lips were the same red as members and the word moderator was in far smaller black lettering.
In those days we had the Property wars the tuk tuk wars and Honolulu jimmy burger and other trolls and at a weensy guess moderating then was a full time job compared to now and handled very well by the mods I may add.
I believe the suggestion that I have put forward would
1. Give a more user friendly appearance and attract more new members.
2. Give the moderators moderating posts more weight
3. Stop ANY confusion between what is moderation and opinion by said mods
4 Stop members biting at mods just because they are mods _________________ A Greatfull Guest of Thailand |

This is so exiting! I bet everyone is so jealous of the new spiffing MOD Badges, now everyone will want to be mods just to get the badges! Have you noticed the connection between the new spiffing MOD badged and the emblems worn by the MODS in the 60's? I'm sure Dr Dave would have approved. Was this a deliberate copy design or sheer chance?
Being a Celt Red White n' Blue's not for me though, prefer Green White n' gold. Keep on truckin'
Dr Dave - we miss you. |

Personally, I don't think this forum is over or under moderated, fairly happy medium.
When threads digress too much from topic or if it starts to really go south and venomuos, then the action taken here is usually proportional.
Moderators should be allowed to answer like everyone else but set the example of replies that do not get emotional and reason their comments with logic or common sense.
Sense, logic and experience speak for themselves.
It is easy to see that the moderators here often post replies having thought about it first and many times offer additional threads for people to view.
This is good as it helps the newer members of the forum or those new to Thailand, which are often forgotten.
As said above, we all know when we are being moderated but here it's usually done in non self-righteous, unpatronising way which I like. _________________ No battle plan ever survives contact with the enemy. - Colin Powell, US General

I think the whole thing is overplayed
The mods do a very good job
I've been out of line a couple of times and got a mild bollocking. Re read my post and agree
Too many beers and feeling in a sh1t mode does not help
Tried any unmoderated forums? Full of shit and profanity
I'm happy with my lot and they perform a very good job in terms of keeping threads on topic
Would you do the job for the hours they put in?
All the tea in China would not convince me to do it and if I did I would not want that stupid F*****g badge
Good luck to them
