BB
Spot on directions from Francois re Panthip.
It's 5 or 6 floors of Pcs and software - you'll be spoilt for choice.
However
Nereus's comments and directions are equally valid as Fortune town IT Mall is pretty good also.
Using a well known Thai phrase
It's up to yooooooo _________________ Terry Theobald

I tried both places several times and I cannot say that it is a much better place. It's different _AND_ supplementary. _________________ Francois

Thanks again guys for all of your help
Just the one question outstanding now - reliability I know that its very difficult to guarantee reliability with a copy, but most copies I've bought in the past have been reasonably OK. I'm going to be on my anuual pilgrimage to Thailand, and I want to be as sure as I can that the copy I buy will work.
Do any of you guys have any tricks or shops of high repute to pass on please? For me, unless I drag a laptop to Thailand, I won't know the application works until I return to the UK. Its one thing picking up another copy when you're next in Bangkok, but that will not really be an option from the UK. _________________ Green Army position 10 2007/08

To be honest, I had one time a CD that did not work properly. I brought it back and got a new one.
I am afraid that you have to carry your laptop or have a friend with a computer in order to try it... _________________ Francois

Before I made the trip to Bangkok, I thought that I would try the shops in Hua Hin first. I picked up a copy at the first shop I tried - the one in the square outside the old shopping mall (where there is not usually anybody serving). The good news is that it loaded fine and works perfectly (I was expecting problems running copy software on Vista).
On the dark side, my granddaughter persuaded me to buy a games disk for her to use on my laptop. I tried to load it, and the virus guard started working overtime detecting viruses all over the place.
I'm currently running a scan in the background to assess any damage that may have been done. _________________ Green Army position 10 2007/08

An update on the virus laden disk. I took it back today and explained that the disk was full of viruses. All the guy in the shop would do was show me the games working on his PC.
I repeatedly asked him to virus scan the disk - he just ignored me. In all honesty, I don't believe he was running any virus software. He was simply selling on what his suppliers had given him.
I remained adamant (without losing my temper) about the viruses, and he became increasingly agitated. Eventually, he returned the disk to stock and threw the money in my direction, at which point I picked it up, and thanked him for his time.
This is obviously a warning message to any prospective customers. That disk is back in stock, waiting to be sold (along with how many others?) to corrupt somebody else's PC.
I am now left with one very unhappy granddaughter. Can anybody please tell me where I can get hold of a couple of safe games disks suitable for a 9 year old in Hua Hin? _________________ Green Army position 10 2007/08

You can download many simple games from the web, there are plenty of websites online for them.
Alternatively if she wants more sophisticated PC games I have an entire box of them here so you're welcome to have a look through, you may need a half decent graphics card to play some of them though. _________________ Named must your fear be before banish it you can. |
