| I'm into golf big time and all the 'craic' (camaraderie/fun) as we call it in Ireland that go's with it. Over the past couple of years, much to my dissapointment,I find that I have being playing less & less golf in Hua Hin. This being mainly due to the fact that I seem to have been most unfortunate with the company that I (for one reason or another) had been drawn to play with. Specifically, dare I say , English ARSEHOLES. As a result I decided, rather than listen to & get embroiled in hassle & crap I would limit my golf to more appropriate occasions with more acceptable company. One such occasion took place recently when on a little visit to Bernies Bar I was asked to make up a fourball in Royal Hin Hin. Having taken up the offer I must say I had a most enjoyable day(played the usual crap) & enjoyed immenesly the company of my 3 English playing partners. Suddenly I had to revisit my earlier assesment of English golfers, nee, English people generally. Now not wishing to abuse the courtesy of HHAD forum with belaboured 'controversial' Nationalistic commments can I please ask those,to whom it may concern, to please remember, that the Red White & Blue depicted on the flags flown throughout Thailand are indeed Thai & NOT English. Thank you. |

Seems like you've been too much Oscar Wllde doctor. I am sure there are come clues in there to indicate what you are trying to say. I think the last one about the red white and blue being Thai not English is the largest clue. The English flag has no blue in it.
Anyway you have given my brain some exercise.
As for defense of the English I have to say that at least with the younger ones they can be the nicest and most pleasant people to be with. I guess its is because they are not carrying around all the post imperilaist superiority shit with them. _________________

Housedoctor,
Your right there are one or 2 pompose pratts around, usually talk a much better game than they play also. Most of us here are not in that vain (maybe you just found the wrong crown early on!). I have enjopyed mant fun days with the society out of Bernies, its just a bit too slow for me most of the time. Again down to a minority who take ages to think about and then hit a s**** shot.
Think Lee Trevino said "if ya gonna miss miss it quick!"
If you fancy a game at dawn sometime send me a pm. |

I would just like to point out that the above phrase, obviously offensive is also, if you happen to be in Dublin at the moment Illegal under EU law;
In Europe, article 10 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms and article 11 of the E.U. Charter of Fundamental Rights also protect freedom of speech as a basic right and as an essential foundation of a democratic society. Nevertheless, freedom of speech is not absolute. It may be subject to certain limitations and even penalties, so as to justify the intervention of public authorities in order to protect inter alia the public safety or the rights of other people.
As a result, racism and xenophobia, as well as incitement to hatred or violence, do not fall within the right to free speech in Europe. On the contrary, they are prohibited and penalised in most national legislations.
Material posted on the Internet does not escape from such regulations. The latter may be applied to online data, not only when the illegal content is hosted in the country or authored by a national citizen, but also when it is considered to be "published" in the country. This generally means as soon as it is accessible via a computer located on the state territory.
In the last few years, European citizens have been prosecuted and punished, in a significant number of criminal cases, arisen in several European jurisdictions, for posting on the Internet messages of a racist and xenophobic nature
"racism and xenophobia shall mean the belief in race, colour, descent, religion or belief, national or ethnic origin as a factor determining aversion to individuals or groups" (art. 3 (a)). |

A bit strong me thinks seamus! If you don't like the company that you find yourself in then move on and don't brand a whole nation with the same brush. A bit immature me thinks, the craic can be found anywhere and everywhere.

STEVE G,
So does that mean that I am not allowed to call him a pink skinned, freckle faced, gingha haired testicle that resembles Paddy's Pig. _________________

Why do I only find friendly and pleasant people from England, Wales and Scotland here in Hua Hin?
I now understand why.
I've never in my life played golf!!
Stay away from golfing and you'll find all the good people.
Sorry to all you other golf players, but that's my best advise to this doctor. _________________ I intend to live forever -- so far, so good. |

Hi Guess, no I’m afraid from now on you will, like me, have to restrict yourself to just thinking that! I think you could perhaps refer to someone as, for instance a “xenophobic ignoramus” without fear of repercussion. |

| Golf the gentlemen's game, but there is always the exception to the rule. Just put it back in your memory box, as lesson learned, there are a lot of good people out there on the courses, of all nationalities, and I hope to be meeting some of you soon, moving to HH in September. |

Sorry Pundi64 but cricket is the gentlemans game,
With an Irish parents from Clonmel,Tipperary,I am only greatly relieved that I was born 5 months after they got off the boat in Hollyhead en route for london so that I was fortunately born an Enlish Arsehole.Another nice thing about Argentina, massive european migration including many Welsh but no Irish as they all wanted the boat to New York thank God |

| Hey Pete,I will let Jaime answer that one when he goes online but the Welsh brought all their sheep farming skills to Argentina which was always more of a cattle based economy but the Irish exported their fantastic labouring energy to North America.Do not want to digress too far from original post which seemed to be dying a natural death due to lack of interest which might well be best |

I'm from England and in the morning I will be playing golf with a young chap from Ireland.
I don't think "arseholes" will be on the agenda!

I can see you need some edicatin' Pete! But how to do it without boring everyone (I know it never stopped me before)?
Hmmm. How can I put it? What analogy can I use to describe the two main branches of the Celtic family; Brythonic (originally speaking 'P'-Celtic languages - Welsh, Breton, Cornish) and Goedelic (originally speaking 'Q'-Celtic languages - Irish, Manx & Scots Gaelic)?
OK, here goes.
The Welsh are the upland gorilla to the Breton chimpanzee and the Cornish benobo.
The Irish and Scots are more distant relatives, like orangutans and northern white-cheeked gibbons!
