I thought this old post of mine on a Board (now archived and non-interactive) I used to belong to might be interesting to new Hua Hin residents or tourists looking for short hops or half-day trips around the environs of Hua Hin and Cha Am.

Probably most of the long term folks here have been to Marukkhathaiyawan Palace (but can they pronounce it? Quickly!), but it charmed my socks off the first time I went, and we continue to go back there for quiet hours with a picnic lunch under the trees in the shadow of what might arguably be the most beautiful building in Thailand ... certainly in my opinion, the most ethereal.

If I could have gone into "edit" mode on his other message board I would have simply copied out the text, formatting and image URL's and pasted them in here, but it's now a closed down shop and I cannot get into one of my own posts.

So instead, you might wish to read it (with lots of photos) by clicking on this link: ( http://p092.ezboard.com/The-Royal-Palace-floating-on-air-/fsawatdeeforumfrm59.showMessage?topicID=307.topic )

I read it over again a few minutes ago (it was originally posted in May of 2005 I think), and I must admit it made me dreamily nostalgic, and I commenced to wishin' my upcoming retirement in Hua Hin later this year would bloody-well hurry up!

I hope you can enjoy.

Cheers ...

Smiles, I’ve never visited this Palace, but it looks like an interesting place so I will make an effort to pay a visit in the next couple of weeks.

You won't be disappointed I'm sure.

When I re-read that old post I realize there is one "direction" mistake in there (having been back there now a few times) . . . it's more like 10 kilometers north of HH, not the 25 kilometers mentioned in the pasted link story.

Cheers ...

Have been there three times. The first two times they were renovating parts of it and it was only the last time (last January) that we saw all of it at the same time. It is a lovely calm place.
The mangrove walk in the gardens is worth a try.Shame about the plastic bottles caught up in them but warching the mud skippers is good.

Cheers
